Pbp - "Run & Hit" & Picthing-Strategies?

Hi there,

i am searching for explanations about the different Pbp-Strategies. I know what the option "Hit & Run" means, but i can't find any explanation about the "Run & Hit" Possibility and in what situations i should use it.

And what are the differences between the multiple Pitching Option (ex. Pitch around).

Thank you in advance for your help on that!

Run & Hit is where you send the runner for sure but give the option of swinging or not to your batter.

The problem with it is that the runners goes whether they get a good jump or not. The advantage is that you aren't asking your hitter to take what could be a hittable pitch.

When I first started playing I used that as my default to steal. I got LOTS of stolen bases, but I also got a lot of caught stealing.

The hitter doesn't "take" a hittable pitch on hit and run, but rather only on steal? Is this correct?

On Hit & Run the hitter will try to hit, no matter what the pitch (within reason, I assume)

On a Steal attempt the hitter will 'take'.

On a Run & Hit the hitter has the option to swing or take at his discretion.

On Hit & Run and Run & Hit the runner will run.

On a Steal attempt, the runner will attempt a steal only if they feel they get a good jump.

I'll answer the pitching question, pitch ahead just means normal pitching.

Pitching around means you are trying to throw a lot borderline pitches. If I understand correctly, I believe in OOTP using this you'll less likely to give up a home run but more likely to walk the batter.

I'll assume you know what is intentional walk or hit batter.

When runners are on base, hold the runners means the 1st basemen will stand on 1st to "hold" the runner, in this case you are less likely to have a base stolen.

In my experience, the hitter will try to hit the pitch even if it's a pitch-out (i use pitch-outs a lot when i think a runner might steal, and have had the AI swinging a few times).

Personally, i use run & hit a lot on 3-2 counts if i have speedy guys on base, the batter hardly Ks, or up against a groundball pitcher so as to avoid any double plays. Gets me in trouble every so often (gave up a triple play the other day, but that was more because i used the ploy stupidly), but it works more than it fails.
