Ratings/Roster Question
Hi, I am a huge baseball fan and know the ins and outs of the game, the players, and ratings and what not (played mogul for a long time).
I have a question about ratings though. I got the '13 demo and was checking out all the rosters. I noticed some of the ratings were weird. For example the Mariners Nick Franklin had some ridiculous potential ratings and Danny Hultzen and James Paxton were rating horribly for potential. All are top tier prospects, but nothing crazy, just solid future good MLB players. I sawweird ratings around the league as well. So pretty much: 1. Are there better rosters out there that people edit? 2. Are some of these weird ratings because of my scouts being off? 3. Is the 20-80 scale the same as real life? (As in 50 is average, 80 is top top tier (Strasburg stuff, Stanton power, Trout speed) And not a lot of guys should have 80 ratings.. Thank you very much to anyone who can answer these! |

First, I stopped playing actual players a long time ago. I prefer fictional. Real leagues turn into fictional leagues anyway. Now to your questions. 1. You can edit this yourself in commissioner mode. I believe that there are roster makers in the Mods section (not certain, however, I use fictional and have no need for these rosters.) 2. Yes. Not only does the ratings of your scout create a fog of war but so does his preference towards tools etc. Additionally, your league-wide scouting accuracy in the global settings will greatly impact scout across the league. 3. Yes. Also you have the option to turn scouts off or you can use a 1-5, 1-10, 1-20, 20-80, 1-100. One last note. When evaluating players it is much more important to look at their individual ratings than their star rating. The star ratings when graphed are not normally distributed. You gather very very little information when using potential and actual star ratings. Look closely at individual ratings. Most importantly look closely at stats. They will tell you all you need to know. Just because your scout thinks a guy is 5 "star" potential doesn't mean he'll ever hit .300. And just because your scout thinks a guy is a 1-star doesn't mean he wont become a top tier player. It is always important to check your scouts ratings against OSA to see if they are pretty much in line with one another. If not, be careful. Again, stats will tell the story.

1. Yes, there are a few roster sets available, check MODS Forum and OOTPMODS.
2. Scouts opinions will vary, and no scout will be 100% accurate. 3. I believe real life uses 2-8, which is also an option in OOTP. Last edited by Bluenoser; 11-22-2012 at 08:17 AM. |
