What's the release date?

I am dying to play this so I gotta ask, how soon can I expect it?

They've not said anything aside from "Late 2012 or early 2013".

I'm not one to complain. I understand there's work to be done and if for instance they said 'Hey guys the games being released on December 6th' and then it wasn't - It's going to p*ss people off!

BUT I will say things seem to be unusually quiet about the game? We was told about this developers diary. Hasn't there only been one write up about the historical play? No screenshots, nothing!. As I said I don't complain. The game is comming and that is good enough news for me but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's checking the forum 4-5 times a day hoping there's news of the release date, price, screen shot, features.. anything!

There's some activity on the Twitter account ( https://twitter.com/FranchiseHockey ). And according to that, the status is in "Closed Beta" and there will be some screenshots released soon. Also, according to the Facebook account the feature list is being finalized.

Thanks for sharing that. I wish they would say that on here too. I'm not one to be checking out tweets. Twitter is like a bad taste in my mouth so i try to avoid it. I would think more people are following this forum too as opposed to FHM twitter account but i could be mistaken.

EDIT: FYI - I've taken two days off right after christmas so that'll be a good time to release the game

Not to crash the party, but I really wish the they would've chosen a basketball simulation over this. Truth be told, not many people watch hockey.

Football has far more fans and viewers of televised games in the USA than baseball and yet ootp selected baseball because that's what they're passionate about.

Yes, the NHL in the USA gets half the viewers that a basketball game or baseball game get but it is also played internationally. There's hockey fans worldwide so that means if offered in other languages it potentially has a market outside of north america. Plus don't forget us canadians love hockey...

Exactly, maybe the sport isn't big in the US but the game is played almost everywhere. Also we have a proof with OOTP that most of the USians gamers don't buy strategy game but console game type game. Finally basketball is incredibly boring as a sport (even the European Football is 100 times more exciting than this).

I don't mind them sacrificing ~3,000 US sales if it means a bunch more European sales, where sports sims are much more popular anyway. Plus, why would they go into a market where they'd be in direct competition with a frequently updated game in DDS:PB3? They're much better off tackling the hockey market, which has seen a whole lotta nothing since EHM2007 aside from empty promises from other developers and companies.

I understand what you mean, and by no means am I 'hating' on your post. I just find it crazy how in the US people say 'hockey isn't big' Compared no it's not the biggest but still, millions of Americans go to a hockey game each year!

There's only...what? Five people on the OOTP Developments team? Ten?

With such a small staff, this game is going to take away from the development of our favorite baseball simulation. Do you really want that?

Making a basketball game instead of a hockey game would be any different in your mind? Whatever it takes.

Yes! It wouldn't matter to me if OOTP did nothign more than update the rosters for a year. (and fix the line-up/pitching screens to show the correct players).

If that's what it takes to get a whole new game, go for it.

Not starting an argument here but my guess would be that basketball has a bigger international market than hockey does.
