Long question about solving fictional player dilemma
I've been running an historical league that began around 1980 and is in year 2011 now. (I began it in v12 and have just upgraded to 13)
I set it up with: fill minor league rosters, generate fictional players, do not prevent from reaching majors. I set development to OOTP engine. All per my wishes, which was a fictional walk through the years with the fun of seeing some familiar faces along the way. The problem is the fictional players dominate the league. The draft is almost meaningless - I can sign huge numbers of 5-star potential fictional free agents and the few that develop become my ML roster. What do I adjust? I don't mind that the historical players develop on random paths, although I'm tempted to turn the randomness down a bit. I guess what would make me happy is to limit the potential of the fictional players so that a smaller percentage develop into stars, and the draft recovers its significance. |

So, you are Importing Historical Rookies and you don't want to Prevent Fictional Players from Reaching the Majors, which means you want a mixture of historical and fictional players. However, the fictional players are dominating the league.

Thanks. I think the recalc change will go a long way to help fix the situation.
Tweaking the fictional players calculator is daunting but worth a shot. Any guess on amounts to start with? Like 0.05 per category - am I going to notice a difference at that level? Maybe I can answer my own question - on a 20-80 scale that's going to change ratings about 3 points on average...right? Again, thank you for the suggestions. I'll get back to you in a few months and let you know how it's working out.

I haven't played a historical league in a while. But I remember a setting like "prevent fictional players from reaching the majors" somewhere in the league settings.

jmk: There is such a setting, but I don't want to use it. I want fictional players involved. I'm looking for a way to curb their dominance.
I have not played a fully fictional league for a long enough time to notice, but with full minor league rosters does the same thing occur, that is: players generated for the free agent pool are often superior to the draft pool? |
