Changing year names

Is it possible to change the names of the years? I started my league in 2012 and have now played 25 seasons. Is it possible to change the years to Year 1, Year 2, etc? thanks for any help.

No. Years don't have names except in Chinese culture (and maybe other cultures).

Why does it matter?

Because this is supposedly the most customizable baseball sim ever and I should be able to start a baseball league in the year 1256 or change it to whatever year I wish at any point or be able to see which players have the most errors in the year of the rabbit. Just because, that's why. Also, all cultures have names for their years. For instance, in the U.S we have named this year Anno Domino Two Thousand and Twelve. I should be able to have that as the date for my league if I want.

Just mentally calculate it if you want.

I think the earliest you can start a league is 1800 or so, and the latest is the year 3000. I don't know whether that means you can go past 3000 or not, though.

Even without this feature it remains the most (only?) customizable baseball sim ever.

Of course you can. The short form for "Anno Domino (sic) Two Thousand and Twelve is 2012. You could use the long form as the league file name.

To paraphrase Tonto, "what do you mean we ... ...".

I don't think you can claim your naming convention as culturally US. I'd suggest it may be used in a lot of other non-US cultures. Inside the US some people may say Twenty twelve CE or Two Thousand Twelve CE. Many many more people in the US say the same words but omit CE unless it's required for clarity. I was taught in school that the "and" is superfluous and should be dropped. Most technical people I know US or otherwise don't use the "and".

There are multiple ways of expressing calender years as words. This is not a culturally based method and it's not analogous to Chinese culture or others that may have a distinct naming convention using words that don't describe a number.

And getting condescending replies to a query is a great way to make someone feel unwelcome too. Just so you know.

Would it be possible to go into the game files or whatever they are called and edit those values to start at 1 and go to 2200(or possibly higher)?

I was actually trying to help the guy, sheesh. You can see by his post count that he's not a frequent poster here.

Yet you felt he was being condescending by saying thank you and also felt the need to point it out.

Woah woah woah woah woah.....woah

We are all friends here and all fans of OOTP and baseball, so let us not get to ahead of ourselves here and turn this into something that it needs not be.

The internet has a nasty way of making people come off across in a way that was not intended, but i assure your, this is quite the helpful community, and a welcoming one as well.

i'm not sure why an artificial limit was placed on the year, but then again...i'm not a programmer.

i would've preferred to start my league in some odd way old year. i dunno...450? it's just for silliness. try to picture what the players would look like back then. instead, we went with 1812. i'm kicking myself just a bit, as our first All-Decade team is missing a couple of years.

I used to do this in the OOTP 5 and 6 era. My Medieval League started in the year 1350. Teams played in the largest European, North African, and Middle Eastern cities of the time. I managed the team from Florence. The winner of the Catholic League played the winner of the Islamic League in the world series.

That was a fun league.

you rule, potemkin!

back in the FPS Baseball '98 days, i had a league called the Ancient Baseball Association. hebrew nationals...rome senators...mongolian BBQs...that sorta thing. if a team lost 100 games three years in a row, their team would go extinct. if a team won three titles in a row, then all other teams would have to sacrifice a virgin (a minor leaguer with 0.000 major league service time) to honor the gods of the champs. good times.
