Rookie League, finances, and ratings.

Hello, everyone. I'm new to the game. I've been playing it for a few weeks. Addicted, really.

I started a fictional ML. Eventually, added a couple of winter leagues and affiliated minor leagues. I wanted to create a small set up to get used to the games.

I tried adding an independent rookie league, without finances, and in the financial report page it shows all the teams with 9 figure budgets and high rated players earning crazy salaries. I chose the rookie level in the drop menu in league setup, and use financial setting from the 1800s, but it doesn't seem to work. The payrolls are higher than the main ML. Any ideas? I get the impression that I might be overlooking a setting or something.

When I apply the 1800s finances, then refresh, it shows the average payroll is very low, but it doesn't reflect in the teams' front office.

Also, there are players rated very high. I was expecting something in the 20s-30s.

And one final question. Using 1800s financial settings adjust the strategy settings to the same year. I don't want a 1 man rotation; I'd like something more modern. Do financial settings and strategy need to be the same if using historical ones?

I'd appreciate any help. Brilliant game, by the way. Can't believe I didn't get into it before. Might even start watching baseball again.

One thing I'm not clear on is whether or not you are using finances. If you are using 1800's financials in a rookie-level league, that may be part of it. I would suggest disabling financials completely for that league or manually setting them all very low relative to MLB. After you change them all either way, you're probably going to want to use the "assign fictional financials to teams" button, and may also "assign fictional contracts to players" so that your changes will be reflected.

And as always, back up your league first so that you can "undo" it if you don't like it.

I started first with no finances. It showed players earning millions. Then changed them manually, very low--same result. Every time I made changes I pressed the "assign fictional financials" and "contracts" buttons. It changed, but they were still pretty much MLB numbers.

Now, in one of the winter leagues, the schedule just disappeared. The auto-play to event is empty. It's been two seasons. The teams have not been playing, and it never enters into pre-season so I can generate a schedule. Any ideas?

For an indy league, I would suggest choosing a year in the past and either let it evolve naturally or redo the same year for say 5-10 yrs a time every January 1st. For one of my Indy leagues I choose financials from 1955 no player makes more then 40-50K, They sign the .5 - 1.5 star players. You can choose financials from 1 yr and strategy from another, while the league yr will still be 2012.

This is how I first planned to set it up. But everything remained ML numbers. I think I'm going to create another indy league and see if the changes apply. I might have messed up somewhere.

When you set it up leave the boxes unchecked under financials and strategy. unless you want one or both to become the same as your league yr. My main league is kind of like an Indy league as MLB is set to 2006 while my league is league yr 2006 but everything else is 1976 (started with 1973)

They are unchecked. I created another indy league, and its financials numbers remain low. I then gave the older ind league the same set up, but it keeps showing ML numbers. The player payroll is the only number that doesn't adjust. It always stays in the 7-8 figures, even with finances disabled.
