Re-Scouting Function
When you use the re-scout function, is that simply updating the ratings or is it completely re-evaluating the players with a certain margin of error? I try to evaluate my players monthly to see how they are progressing, but the ratings aren't updated every month, so as a possible solution I would like to try is to manually re-scout them monthly, but I'm not sure if that would accomplish what I want. As an example, if I use the re-scout function, and a player has his ratings increase, could I conclude that the player is improving, or is it going to be random based on a certain margin of error, which is determined by the quality of your scouting program?
Hopefully that makes sense, I can try to exlain it better if no one knows what I'm talking about... Last edited by Spracks; 09-03-2012 at 08:53 AM. Reason: grammar |

I'd like to hear some thoughts on this as well, too.

It's re-scouting using the same evaluation method it used originally, so yes, there will be margin of error, and you won't necessarily know if changes in scouted ratings perfectly reflect changes in skill.

I guess I'll just ask this: Do people actually find value in re-scouting?

It's like rolling 20 dice again hoping that all 20 show the number 6 this time.

So what you're saying is... There's a chance!
![]() Sounds like it's not particularly valuable and would probably cause more confusion than less. |

There's always a chance. But essentially re-scouting doesn't increase the chance that the new scouting report is correct. It might happen that the new report is even further away from the truth than the old one.

Well, statistically speaking, each extra sample you take gets you closer to the true mean (player rating). If one were so inclined, having that scout rescout frequently would allow you to better surmise the player's true ability.
But if you cared that much, you should probably just turn off scouting.

If a scouting report gets thrown out of the pool of possibilities each time you got it, then you would be right. But there should still be the chance that you get the same scouting report you had before you re-scouted.
But I agree, if you want accuracy, increase it or turn scouting off. |
