Learning new positions

I've been told that if a player who is an infielder has no outfielder fielding ratings, he'll never learn an OF position. Is this true?

So you mean a 0/0/0 in the range/error/arm rating? If that is the case, I don't think so

No. Who told you?

Check the ratings tab and you will see his skills. His eventual rating will come from those skills.

Edit; see below

I could be wrong, or the fact that one of the few times i have tried this the player was too old, but i tried taking 35 yr old Harold Baines who at the time was 0's across the board and tried making him my 1B. After 90 games and still no rating I gave up, or it was his 32 errors. I have also tried using Mark Grace as my LF, after 70 games I gave up on that with 13 errors. Gracie was 35ish.
Any player who I have tried to have learn a new position since always is at least 1 1 for IF/OF/C. the younger they are the quicker they will learn it and be better at it. a 23 yr old 2B with a 2 in LF can be as good as a 6 after 5 seasons. A 25 yr CF with a 1 at 1B became a 9 after 11 seasons.

I think you misunderstood the question. He's saying the OF skills (OF range, OF arm, OF error) are all 0's.

Not sure if it is true to answer your question, but, I think work ethic and intelligence may have something to do with this.
