Is F/A Signing strictly monetary?

Do free agents sign contracts strictly on a monetary basis? In other words, do players ever take home-town discounts to stay in the city they've played in for the past decade? Also, does your teams potential to win ballgames effect a players chances of signing with you?

If these factors haven't been incorporated into OOTP yet, they should be. It would provide a far more realistic approach when pursuing contracts.

These have all been incorporated (and are affected by a player's loyalty and desire for winning, among other things).

Players want to stay with good teams. Other players want to go to good teams. Discounts do exist but I think they are minimal. My dominant team lets many players leave because they want too much money. On the rare occasions where I pursue a free agent they never don't want to play on my team.

I was under the impression that loyalty and desire to win only affected morale.

At any rate, I remain clueless as to why a key player refuses to negotiate with me.

Typically, only two reasons: he'd made it clear he intends to explore FA or there was an offer made and withdrawn (possibly an extreme lowball). We're talking about negotiating an extension here, right? Or a player who has some history with you?

I'm looking for an extension. His morale lists him as 'extremely happy' or something like that, but whenever I try to negotiate he says he wants to test the market. I guess I just always thought when a player was happy somewhere, he'd be willing to listen to offers for an extension.

How far into the season is it for your league? If it's early, and he's made this decision, it might be in part because you're bringing it up prematurely, at least from his perspective. He may not change his mind, but if I were in your position, I'd drop it, not approach negotiations again until you either hear from him or it's within a couple of weeks of FA declaration; then ask him for a sweet deal- and I mean sweet, if he's really "key" -and see what he thinks.

Sometimes in my custom league I will go in and offer a FA a contract at let's say 200 k, he will say he wants 400K. I won't sign him then he signs with a competitor who has no chance of making the playoffs for the league minimum of 56K. I can never figure this out.
