No outs, man on third
Double play ball.. runner on third base doesn't come home, DP is made and now I'm sitting with a runner on third base and two outs?

That play just happened a week or two ago in an Astros game. There was a DP ball, I thought I saw the runner go home, scored it as a DP with the run scoring. The supervisor in NY messaged "hey, stop, that run didn't score". The person I saw down the 3B line was the coach.
It happens. |

Where'd the batted ball go? If it was toward third, with no outs I can see the runner not going in time.

It went to the SS.
I don't play many games out, but I'm seeing some really goofy base running and it's starting to piss me off. I have a man on third base, speed 6/10, base running 10/10, only 1 out.. ball hit back through the box, SS scoops it up and throws the runner out at first base. WHY IN THE F DID THE RUNNER JUST STAND THERE ON 3B??? I'm down 1-0 in the 8th and that just might cost me this playoff game. |

Here's the 2nd one, the odd thing is, it was the SS who made the put out, NOT the 2B as the game log says - the PbP specifically said, ball hit to Villar who is the SS for the Brewers, even so, through the box to the 2B, the runner should be going on contact:
TOP OF THE 8TH St. Louis Cardinals batting - Pitching for Milwaukee Brewers : RHP Jon Short Pinch Hitting: LHB Lúcio Rosa 0-0: SINGLE (Groundball, 6MD) Pinch Runner at 1st Benedicto Segura: Batting: RHB Augusto Méndez 0-0: Ball 1-0: Called Strike 1-1: Ball 2-1: Called Strike Benedicto Segura steals 2nd base 2-2: Fly out, F8 (Flyball, 8LXD) Runner from 2nd tags up, SAFE at 3rd, no throw Batting: LHB Kang-il Yi 0-0: Ball 1-0: Ground out 4-3 (Groundball, 4M) |

You're right. It doesn't make sense. Is your team's baserunning strategy set at ultra-cautious, by chance?

Ball is hit through the box past the pitcher to the SS (pbp says 2b which doesn't jive with the pbp) either way, ground ball 8th inning, down by 1 run and you have a 10/10 base runner - he at least attempts to score. There is no 3B coach in the ML that wouldn't send him.
I'm not buying it.. |

The grounder may have been hit in an area in the field where the runner would be held up. Remember the play-by-play text is a bit random and won't always match up to exactly what happened on the field. You could have ended up with a ball hit to the shortstop which prevented the runner to move then the text goes into a random double play scenario where the SS takes it to the base. Doesn't make a ton of sense, I admit, but it is baseball and strange things happen all the time

Or maybe the runner slipped and lost valuable time and decided not to risk it?

Yeah, I'm sure it could happen.. the pbp needs some improvement. How can we paint this picture in our heads when the pbp doesn't explain things correctly?

Imagination is unfortunately required. Although we are all playing a text sim so imagination comes with the territory
