Team full of chokers?

Bought this game for my iPhone about a month ago, really enjoying it. Been travelling a lot of late and it's really helped pass some time. I played a few seasons as the Diamondbacks (my team) to get myself used to how the game worked before diving into a full career as the Cubs (mainly for their market size) with a full fantasy draft to spread out the existing talent pool. My issue ( or rather topic of discussion) is this:

Due to a $190m cap per year, I am regularly able to put together a very strong team. I have just finished 2018 (7th season), making the playoffs 5 times. The 2 years without playoff ball were rebuilding years without signing type A and type B FA's and generally purging cap space at the same time. Over my 7 seasons I've compiled a record of 671-463 (.592). This latest season, I managed to win 114 games, 2 shy of the MLB record. In my 7 seasonsI have 4 playoff game wins. That's games. Not series, not titles, but games lol

I don't want to win the WS every season, that's dull. I also fully intent to play a career with a small market team so I can't just sign up whoever I please and load my roster, but at the moment I'm just at a loss as to why my team is so terrible as soon as I make the playoffs. I know the sample of 5 seasons in the playoffs isn't a lot, but it still seems pretty strange. In the 114 win season, I lost 3-0 to an 87 win Arizona side that has 1 4.5 star player, 2 4 star players and the rest of the roster is 3 stars or less. My team has 17 4 star or better players lol I have a pitcher that I drafted, he's 27, Chinese, has a career W-L of 70-34, career ERA of 2.69, 4 time All Star, 1 time NL Cy Young. He's 0-5 in the playoffs :-D

I guess I just wondered if anyone had any post season tips. I generally sim the regular season and use the game itself as me just being the GM, but then I watch and manage games in the post season. I know baseball, tactics, hit and run, match ups etc. so it's not like I'm hammering my starters into the ground or have no idea what I'm doing. But every game the CPU gets the most timely hits from terrible players, their CPU pitchers all become lights out, and my batters who have been on fire for 162 games suddenly forget how to swing a bat

Help wanted, or shared experiences welcome lol

heh heh I was going to say something along the same line. I just played a historical season ('95 Indians) and they were just amazing during the season. Just blowing everyone away.
Then the playoffs came and I lost in the second round. So, I guess history did almost repeat itself as the Tribe lost in the World Series that year to the Braves.
I don't think it's choking...I think its just fate.

I have simmed through 17 seasons and won 6 WS titles. I've seen everything from losing a series after being up 3-0 to winning a series after being down 0-3. As a large market team I've also been to the playoffs almost every year and can see why I've flamed out in the first round when it's happened

Here's my two cents:

You need an ace. A true 5 Star, Pitcher of the Year candidate, ace. Because the AI will use their best pitcher 3 times in a 7 game series. I've had very good hitting teams get completely overwhelmed in the postseason because my starters were middle of the road. I can use a four man rotation in the first round. But after that if my #1 starter was noticeably weaker than their #1 starter, I had almost no chance.

In relation to that, I've had teams that were "good" but not great that advanced to and/or won a WS because I could run a hot starter out there in games 1, 4, and 7.

So yeah..if you want to see more postseason success, do whatever you need to in order to acquire a top tier #1 Starter.

And that is what seems to happen in real baseball also. It's all about the starting 1-2.

Well, In my 8th season I won 124 games after simming the regular season. Instead of managing the playoff games I simmed those as well and won the WS lol It appears that I am the weak link! My Chinese pitcher got NL Cy Young for a second successive season (so I clearly have my ace starter). The other 4 pitchers in my rotation all got a lot of wins (16, 17, 21, 23 & 24 for my ace). My CF hit 47 HR's, my RF hit 32 and my catcher Jesus Montero hit 31.

Managed to lock nearly all my roster up to long and affordable contracts through their prime years but the deals end before they decline. With no need to sign any key free agents I can keep my own draft picks and stockpile my farm system again to. I'll play a while longer, see how I get on then start a game with a little more of a challenge budget wise
