Need Pointers on League Creation

Hello!

New to OOTP13, but have owned several previous versions up to 10. I'm seeing some interesting features, and want to see if I have a proper understanding of how I could possibly use them.

My Goal -- I'd like to build a fantasy league that can be used for online play (potentially), that has 50 years of "history" to it. I'd like this league to be close to MLB, but initially start with fewer teams. Over time, I'd like to add expansions, getting the league up to today's set of teams and minors.

First, is that possible?

Also, I'd like to use the financial system, but my experience with past versions of OOTP showed some flaws. From what I've seen on the forums, it appears lots of those problems don't seem to bother people anymore. I did see that you can set the year of the financial model.

Based on my desired goal, do I want to set the financial model for something similar to 50 years ago to start, or do I set it to something closer to today? And, if I set it to 50 years past, will it advance in a manner typical to the way baseball grew over time, or will I need to manually tweak that now and again?

Finally, from a gameplay perspective, what would the correct settings for player development be? Mind, I'm not aiming for a historical league, but a league with history. I've always liked the concept that players improve (or not) based on their past performances, but is this something worth doing?

Thanks in advance! Any responses will be appreciated!

Do some research on historical leagues. Basically, you can accomplish everything on your list by starting with an early MLB league, replacing historical players with fictional ones, and setting options to automatically evolve your league and update financial and strategic settings, year by year.

As far as online, you can be the commissioner of such a league, yes. Why not? The thing is, you've got to do the research and experiment a bit. Start with the online manual and searching these forums for answers. Don't limit such searches to just OOTP 13, as some concepts have been around for quite a few versions now, but realize that the best answers will indeed come from the 13 forums.

Thanks for the info. I ran a league last night starting in '46 up to 2012, and I see the league built out correctly. It did not add minors, though, but I think that's something I can do where necessary.

Only thing that was a little weird--I thought I cleared the rosters and replaced with fictionals, but early on I see Stan the Man, Ted Williams, and some other notables from '46 tearing things up.

Part of that process is to delete those guys, as much as it may be painful to do so. IIRC, you clear the rosters, dumping the real players into the free agent pool. Then, as commissioner, you mass-delete them. Then you fill rosters with fictional players, dump those guys off the rosters, and then schedule an inaugural draft.
