What Type of Universe do you play with?

I was just curious how everyone plays their games.
I started using mine as a universe with three different major leagues, one in north america, one in far east asia and a carribean league based out of Venezuela. I joined them in an association, with the winners of the caribbean and asia league playing in a play off series and the winner of that playing the winner of the north american league for the world series.

I had 24 teams in the north american league, with 12 in the asian league and 12 in the venezuelan league.

I am getting a bit bored with the universe though, as I wanted the three to act as really one big league, but with separate laderboards and all that they really didn't. It looks like I'll have to wait until associations are done a bit better in future versions to really do one.

So I was wondering what type of universe you guys play with. Do you use an MLB type league or have you created your own fictional universe? I want to start a new game and need some good ideas.

So far I've only done a few historical replay leagues.

Historical replay starting in 1871. I'm in 1929 with 29 playoff appearances and 22 titles!

didn't realize historical replays were so popular. Does anyone do fictional leagues? I would use current rosters but I'm not a fan of how all the records are screwed up because of the steroid era.

I only play fictional leagues. My leagues is the North American Baseball League or NABL for short. It contains 3 divisions of 6 teams.

The Northern Division has 6 Canadian teams. The Central Division has 6 US teams and the Southern Division has 3 Mexican teams, Havana, San Juan and Santo Domingo.

I run a 162 game schedule with the 3 division winners and 1 wild card team making the playoffs.

I also use a $3.5 M salary cap and no minors, scouts and coaches. After almost 24 years, the league records look pretty good.

I'm 24 seasons into a fictional league right now that I'm really enojoying. I have an Amercian league (2 divisions of 6 teams/ East and West) and then a World League (2 divisions of 6 teams with Europe and Asia division). For me, I prefer completely fictional leagues because this way I don't have any preconceived notions about the players or how their careers develop.

I'm just wrapping up the third season (1912) of my restarted fictional league. It's U.S. based. Currently a six team circuit that will eventually become a 4 league (six teams each) association by 1950.

I tend to play fictional the most but for some reason this year I'm really into current rosters. Probably because my favorite fictional quickstart (Kalama) hasn't been updated for OOTP13 yet and I've been too lazy to do it myself.

1) A historical started in 1910, now in 1933
2) A historical started in 1940, now in 1978
3) Replay of the 1971 season, my first season with Strat-o-matic as a kid
4) A random debut started in 1902, still there
5) An 8-team league of 5 great historic teams and 3 terrible ones
6) A test league where each of 8 teams focused on drafting players with a good particular attribute, ie. contact, stuff, etc. Interesting that the best teams were the ones that focused on OVR, EYE, and CONTROL.
7) An association of leagues from North America, Mexico, and Japan. That one is abandoned because I cant get it to keep the nationalities of free agent pools in tact, and it crashes when I leave it.

Spend most of my time on the first two and enjoy thoroughly.

Does that mean no more Metro League?

I would love to hear more about your current fictional league DT.

I league where the south won the civil war, so the north and south each have their own league. The league winners play in associated final.

I also have a league based in the soviet union....kinda fun too. Not sure whats next.

Fictional, 1937, year 37. It somewhat mirrors real life while also adding my own take on how I wish things happened all with fictional players though. In 1939 I plan on adding the Cuban National Series though for some extra interest.

My main is a 2012 Astros game (now in 2013 and we still suck). I also have a 5-league US association that I'm trying to do as a dynasty write-up, but I never find the time to write anything up (though I'm going to work on it now :P).

Out of curiosity, what is not working as desired with your (the OP's) association?

I was doing a current roster with the Rockies, but year long injuries to Tulo, Gonzalez and Helton put the team on an 11 game losing streak so I got bored and moved onto a 1967 replay with real transactions and lineups.

Sorry about the mis-communication, elmwood44. Actually, I was talking about my Metro Leagues in it's current U.S. version. You can find a link in my sig to read more about it.

I have been working on an update for Kalama for OOTP13 but I had a hard drive crash that delayed progress. Hopefully, I will have the new version up later this week.
