No Night Games until feature didn't make it....

Started in 1871. Generated schedule. Games at 7:05 pm

I have been asking since OOTP11 to have an option of 'no night games' or better yet honor the history of night games:

Famous First Night Games by Baseball Almanac

With the new real-time-simulation feature...

The first World Series night game was game 4 of the 1971 World Series in Pittsburgh between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Baltimore Orioles. I walked out of the Pittsburgh airport with Roberto Clemente a few days before when the Pirates arrived in town down 2-0 in the series.

He refused my request for an autograph. I can understand considering they had just lost 11-3 in Baltimore a few hours earlier and I think he was trying to sneak out of the airport unnoticed by the crowd. It would have been nice. That was during the time I was playing Sports Illustrated Baseball and knew everyone by sight and batting average on both teams. He didn't stand a chance sneaking by me, a future OOTP player.

The Pittsburgh Pirates went on the win the World Series in game 7 with Steve Blass and the Pirates edging Mike Cuellar and the Orioles 2-1 and Roberto Clemente was voted the MVP. Tragically, Clemente was killed the next year in a plane crash carrying aid to the earthquake victims in Nicaragua. He was 38 years old.

Sweet! I was 11 then and still remember the games... The Reds and Pirates playoff games during this era were intense....

I can remember our teacher letting us watch the games on TV in class but I wanted to hurry up and get home because we were
the first house in the neighborhood with a color TV (Papa loved his Lawrence Welk in cover!) Day World Series Games - what a concept!!!

I loved the World Series day games. I really wish they would have at least one if not two day games in the Series now. It would at least be a reflection of the actual season conditions. Why can't they play a weekend day game? They play football games, car races, hockey games, basketball games, golf tournaments, during the day and folks watch. All I'm asking for is a sprinkling of day games in the series.

Ah, those new color tv sets. Amazing how they did that.

One of my best memories in elementary school was one of my teachers was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan. She brought a TV in the classroom and we watched the entire 1967 World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Soxs. The Cardinals won which made it even better for us, the teacher was happy, and so was the class.

This should so be in the game. Real simple. Can even just make it another check box.

Interleague play []
Day games only []
scheduled double headers []
Import custom playoff schedule []

I am taking the idea bit further here....

I just export the schedule to a file, do a global search and replace (1305 for 1905), save it, and re-import the schedule.

No night games!

What an easy fix!

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Interleague play can be tricky to schedule in depending on the alignment of the subleagues and the format of the schedule. Doubleheaders being present would rely on (a) being able to set the calendar length of the schedule file (which adds a whole other level of complexity to schedule generation), and/or (b) allowing games to be postponed during the season and rescheduled for a later date (which, again, adds a new level of complexity). Customized playoff schedule files are something I've started thinking about, allowing the user to create a post-season schedule outside the game, tailored the way they want it, and then importing that back into the game. This, too, has its own level of added complexity. It's not a simple endeavour at all, certainly not if one wants it done right.

(I do intend on submitting a more detailed proposal for dedicated post-season schedule files to match what currently exists for the regular season to allow more precision for a user to set up a post-season schedule.)

Gotcha Bobby

Been making my own schedules for years. But just want the game to be able to 'know' this...

Here's a link to real 19th century schedules to use in the game for 19th century play. I use them for my fictional MLB leagues beginning in the 19th century:

Problem solved!

Also, does the time of day affect attendance?

Day game on a weekday will be less attended than if it were at night in the real world. Does the game figure this?

No, it doesn't. That's because in order to do that appropriate there needs to be real-world data compiled to serve as a reference. No one has done that to the best of my knowledge, since it means working with Retrosheet's game logs to get the attendance data, and then process and analyze it. (Note that reliable and mostly complete attendance data in the game logs only goes back to about the early 1950s; before then there are only rough estimates available, if that.)

It's an area I find interesting, and from my brief looks at it, the patterns of attendance seem to have changed over the years. But I've got about a dozen other things (if not more) competing for my attention, so I won't be tackling this matter for awhile...

Good to know! When working with cash strapped teams, every butt in the seats matters. One less thing for me to worry about
