It seems too early to promote...
Take a look at this guy. He seems to be not only ready, but a star in the Majors right now. I have this feeling that if I did promote him it would be too early. I just drafted him last season (first draft in this league) tho he was out of college so he is 23. Any advice on him? I'm worried about his vs LHP split, and while the overall is sky high I don't see him as that high of an overall. Scouts love this guy and say he's ready now.

If you don't NEED to bring him up I wouldn't. Maybe wait til late June early July. Give him some more seasoning at AAA

When you do bring him up I would set him as a platoon player as well, with limited starts against lefties to see how he does.

Man don't get me started on the overall and potential ratings. How this guy is rated that high and not even ready for the majors. I don't trust those rating much.
Unless you absolutely need him up right now I'd leave him down. He still has a lot room to grow and those numbers at AAA vs lefties are concerning. It's not unheard of for a 23 year old to be ready but I'd give him a little more time. Is he unhappy because he's in the minors? |

I'd give him a shot, but only as platoon. I think he'll be ok. I'd give him a pretty short leash though.

I trust we're working with a 1-100 rating scale here? That gap power is enormous. I'd be inclined to have him, at minimum, platooned, because when that Contact gets increased he's going to be formidable with extra-base hits. My guess is his 'seasoning' period is not going to take long, regardless of where he spends that time.

He has all of 28 AB's against lefties. I wouldn't worry too much about that due to small sample size. If you need OF help in the majors and he's your best option, give him a 3-week tryout until Upton comes back. Especially if he's already on your 40-man.

If you've got a spot open, I'd give him a shot. If he doesn't perform over 3 weeks (Upton's return), send him back down. If he does perform, well that's a nice problem to have. :P

Ended up hitting .150 in the time I had him up. Oh well. His ratings also took a huge hit. Sometimes this game confuses the crap out of me.

Well you probably have more money invested in scouting the major leagues. So when you called him up your scout got a better look at him and adjusted what he rated him. Not to say this rating is 100% right either it's just more informed.

This is true, 40% to 25%. I've thought of tweaking that because the way I see it you can figure out ratings much better at major league level then in the minors. It is however notable my scout is "Good" at majors and "excellent" at Minors scouting.

When do you guys decide a guy is ready? You look at age? Or his stats in A ball or do you just go with need?
I have Dylan Bundy in AA and I am really chomping at the bit to bring him up now. Just don't want to hurt his growth. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk |
