Broadcaster's Career Longevity Recognized by Guinness

Most of you won't know this guy, but I felt that I should present him to you anyway. I bolded some amazing things about him. I mean, this guy announced Don Larsen's perfect game, 56 years ago, and he's still sportscasting!

Wolff Recognized by Guinness World Records

Bob Wolff of News 12 Long Island officially has been recognized by Guinness World Records for a title he long has held informally: "Longest Career as a Sports Broadcaster."

Wolff, 91, is in his 73rd year of a career that began at WDNC in Durham, N.C., when he was a freshman at Duke in 1939.

"For 25 years, we've been thrilled and honored to count Bob Wolff as a member of the News 12 family,'' said Patrick Dolan, president of News 12 Networks and News 12 Long Island news director. "Bob is more than a sportscaster; he's a broadcast legend. And he's still hitting it out of the park, as evidenced by his recent New York Emmy nomination.

"His genius and relentless work ethic have been an inspiration for scores of young sports professionals at News 12 and elsewhere. Whenever Bob's on the air, he makes us better. We're thrilled that he's agreed to stay on board.''

Wolff recently signed a two-year contract extension with News 12 Long Island.

"This has been a wonderful journey and I'm still enjoying every moment," Wolff said. "I've been privileged to work with some of the best professionals in the business, and for that I am truly grateful. I feel enormously lucky that I have been a professional sports broadcaster in nine decades, beginning on CBS in 1939, providing play-by-play of some of the most memorable games in sports history. And I look forward to continuing to cover sports for News 12 Long Island."

Wolff spent many years in Washington, D.C., and also called a number of iconic games nationally, including Don Larsen's World Series perfect game in 1956 and the NFL Championship Game in 1958, in which the Colts defeated the Giants in overtime.

Wolff also served as the voice of the Knicks and Rangers. He joined News 12 Long Island when it launched in 1986.

Forget Larsen he got to see the Mick. Man he saw Williams, Mays, Mick, Koufax he probably saw all the greats of that generation.

And he's still around to tell about it.

Awesome. Supremely jealous.

This is also true of Vin Scully.

Wolff is a legend, one of the great sports broadcasters of all time - and one of the few naturals at baseball broadcasting who was truly equally, brilliantly, adept at other sports as well (Bill King, Jack Buck, Dick Enberg in his prime come to mind immediately.)

He can tell a story or two.
