Quite Possibly the Best Playoffs I've Ever Seen

So, let me explain my solo league set up. I have two divisions with eight teams a piece. I'm doing a split season playoffs, where the team with the best record during the first half of the season in their division gets a playoff seat and the team with the best record during the second half in their division gets the other seat in the playoffs. Final team record has no bearing. I wanted the trade deadline to have a big bearing on the second half of the season, much like free agency does in the off season.

This league is 16 seasons young and I've never seen something like this happen, although it's been what I've secretly been wanting.

Here in 2015, the teams that made the playoffs based on final standings were Albuquerque (1st place final record, 42-28 first half) vs Fort Worth (3rd place final record, 43-27 second half) from the Liberty League and Detroit (3rd place final record, 38-32 first half) vs Memphis (5th place final record, 42-28 second half) from the Freedom League. The two 'top teams' in the Freedom League didn't even make the playoffs. That's awesome.

Memphis and Fort Worth met in the Championship Series, with Fort Worth coming out the victor. Memphis, up 3-0 in the series, completely collapsed and lost four games straight to give Fort Worth their first Championship.

I would LOVE to see that in the real world, with no allegiance to a team.

I know it's not for everyone, especially those who want to see the best teams duke it out for the championship, but this is what I've been wanting to see for 16 seasons out of my solo league.

As an aside, my team went 58-82.

That is a good story. Its a good thing that you were not managing Fort Worth. If so, you would have probably trashed your house in a wild victory celebration!

Thanks for sharing.

I love hearing things like this. I'm going to have to try a split season league one of these days.
