Manny Ramirez: Really???

Quote:
"Minutes before, they stood closely by Ramirez's side as he addressed media members for nearly 12 minutes and relayed a sense of gratitude for his most recent opportunity and the change he's found in himself since discovering God.

"I think I'm here because God brought me here," Ramirez said, exuding a genuine tone. "Sometimes when you don't have God in your heart, you do stupid things without thinking about it. When you start going to church and learning what really is going on, it's like you're opening your eyes and realizing it doesn't matter how much money you got, nice house, cars. If you don't have God in your heart, it doesn't mean anything. So now I appreciate my family more, my kids, the game." "
Manny Ramirez makes strong first impression on A's | MLB.com: News

If actions speak louder than words, why all the words about God? When I started reading this article on mlb.com I actually had to check and make sure I didn't somehow find myself at The Onion by mistake. It seemed like a parody article brought on by some other recent players and their stories.

So is he going to get an accountability partner to keep him off PED binges?

This will be another "David Justice" signing for Billy Beane if Ramirez has truly turned his life around. He could be a good "baseball technique" influence on Cespedes (or it could easily go the other way).

I think it's a good signing but I think that there's alot of other teams that it would've benefited more. The A's have alot of prospects that could be using the AB's.

I agree with the new guy. The Twins could have even used ManRam to fill the gaping hole left by Thome's departure.

I don't know the terms of the deal but this could be a good signing. Manny was always an amazing hitter so why not throw some PA his way and see what happens. If he is terrible you can always cut him in ST.
And the A's offense is not exactly going to light it up so might as well get creative.
