Possibility of Random Debut Feature?

So many people seem to play this way anymore and it's not been exactly easy to make your own random debut databases. What are the odds we could see this feature make it into OOTP? You could choose which database you plan on using from the database folder and it'd mix up the debut years from there to create a random debut league. This would quickly become my favorite way to play as I have been playing random debut leagues since OOTP8!

This would only work for non-recalc leagues, right? Basically a career historical league where player development is enabled.

That is how I play my random debut is non-recalc. I'd have to believe that is the same for everyone else as well.

Thats the way I play as well, and Ive been asking for random draft ( or player-specified )
for years. With the new association options one would think this would be a natural feature to add on. At present I have to create multiple leagues from different eras or
starting dates to get variety in the draft classes, but am locked into the historical progressions thereafter. Not a deal-breaker by any means but it does entail a lot of editing that could be circumvented with this option.

I'm going to agree with this suggestion.

No, recalc random debut leagues are great as well. All one has to do is find a set of modifiers they are happy with.

A random utility would be much, much appreciated.

I would love this. Would love to see a draft where Darryl Strawberry and Eddie Cicotte are in the same class. Would be a great game playing experience.

My problem with having people make me random debut databases before is, I don't know when I want to expand and by how many teams and that seems to throw off the draft pool. Making this a part of the game would make running a league like this SO much easier.

Having a draft where maybe Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth are in the same class. Or a draft where the best in the class is Neifi Perez. That's a lot of fun for me.

I've never done this but if it came as an option with the game I definitely think I'd dabble around with it. I play Historical solo leagues only so I think it'd be fun to spice it up by having different era players randomly popping up in draft classes playing against each other.

Sure beats starting another league and playing through history with the samep players always showing up at the same time.

The issue with random debut now is that if you expand, the draft pool doesn't expand with the league. So the players would have to be determined before each season rather than at the beginning of the league.

It's a very cool idea. If it were built in, could you tell the game that you want 1960-type results or 1998-type results and have the players adjust appropriately? Could you have totals adjust through time as they did in real life but have different players arrive in different eras (so that, let's say, a Ted Klusewski in his prime hits 8-9 homers in 1915 and upwards of 60+ in 1998)?

This is precisely what I would like. Even more esotric: import the same class into two or more leagues with differing modifiers to see what happens. Of course you'd need to modify the names to keep data recognizable. I'd do this with fictionals but I swear the player creation matrix for fictionals still creates unusually impossible players. I get better, more believable results with historical imports.

I assumed this thread was about The Big Show randomly debuting for the Red Sox and hitting Derek Jeter in the face with a steel chair...

...should I create a new thread for this suggestion?

Ditto

I play almost exclusively with random debut databases and it is really great. I used neutralized stats but have also tried it other ways and the leagues are still exciting and fun.

In my current league my opening day lineup is:

Buddy Meyer 2B
Patsy Daugherty LF
Hank Aaron RF
Adrian Gonzalez 1B
Vern Stephens SS
Ed Roush CF
Burgess Whitehead 3B
Ray Fosse C
Bobby Mathews P

This may seem like an imposing lineup but the Yankees (under Joe McCarthy) have Rogers Hornsby, Mo Vaughn, and Larry Doby in the middle of their batting order. That is some team.

The drafts for random debut leagues are a lot of fun as well.

Some sort of utility or a grouping of databases would really be a plus for OOTP 13.

Bump because this should go hand-in-hand with the changes underway in V.13, and I
cant wait to include this feature with 3rd or even 4th majors in an imaginary universe.
PLEASSSSSE!!

so much for pride lol!

Add me to the list of people who would love to see this feature. I haven't tried it, but it seems to be something really unique that could change the flavor of historical leagues.

Agreed! There is no other game on the market that does this, so it would definitely be unique to OOTP.
