Android Version

I know this has probably been discussed ad nausea as it has been in regards to any commercial mobile App. But, as a long-time Android man (guess that really can't be more than a couple years, but it seems like the OS has been around forever) I will probably hold out on a new OOTP purchase until this has been addressed.

IMPORTANT - this is not a threat or hunger-strike type declaration either. Just have the last couple versions of OOTP for PC and really am not inclined to upgrade my PC version again for awhile (still holding out hope for a nice graphical presentation someday). With that said, though, I would be really intrigued to have any version of OOTP on my Xoom.

Anyone else really holding out for an Android version?

And finally, before I pre-order 13, it would be pretty considerate if OOTP would let me know whether Android is in it or not. I'm sure they would know this answer by now. 'CAUSE if it is...I preorder instantly. If it's not I won't order at all this year. No offense..every year the game gets better and I would never deny that, nor the hard work put into it. Just a personal preference and request.

iOOTP will probably be released for Android this year (the Android platform routines are already in the work), but definitely not at the same time as the iOS version. There are some technical difficulties which we have no solution for yet...

you might want to check the actual forum for IOOTP that would be where you would hear about any info for that game. This is for OOTP, not the mobile version

iOOTP is not the "mobile" version. It's the IOS version. If they had been smart about how they did this in the first place it would have been a lot cheaper for them and a lot better for those of us who want to play on non-apple mobile devices. There are ways that a game, especially a game like OOTP, can be developed simultaneously for all platforms. But no, some IOS developer approached them and sold them a pipe dream and now here we are.

Now it's the IOS version but once it comes out for andriod and it will it's not going to get a name change so it'll be IOOTP to me always.
The smart thing is catering to apple devices, they outnumber the non-apple people by a large margin so it's always smarter to go after the bigger market first and i'm sorry to say that's all things apple

Let me guess you are an iFanboy? How else do you think apple leads android by a large margin when iOS doesn't even lead android in market share?

And it makes complete sense. One company makes iPhones, while there are at least 4 major manufacturers that make android devices.

Hmm, I just asked on the facebook page and someone said there wouldn't be a kindle fire version but it uses android apps. So, will this android app work on kindle fire?

Because you have all the information Markus & Co. had when they decided to develop for iOS. It's so sad that they didn't have you on staff to advise them.

Seriously, I can understand wanting the game for Android if that's what you use, but to imply business incompetence (in an information vacuum, no less) is uncalled for.

actually i'm the opposite, i hope Apple dies a slow and painfull death. But the drones and the main stream media seem to think Apple can do no wrong and i'm sorry but i don't see block long lines for any Andriod tablets.
I can buy a Ipad, Ipod touch or Iphone and play the same game but how many flavours of Andriod are there out there and all have their own app store, I'm sorry Apple is king even if you hate them admit the truth so that's why Apple comes first.
Anyways in the actual thread they said there will be one.

Well, as far as I know, my kindle fire can play any android app so I don't see it as an issue. What has happened is they have likely decided to no longer do an android app. I just noticed the post I replied to was from January. So, until Markus says differently I am going to go with the response given to me today on the facebook page.

I am disappointed there won't be an android app but whatever. I'd rather have a kick butt PC version rather than they spread themselves too thin and end up unable to pour 100% effort into it.

Amazon has highly modified the version of Android running on the Kindle Fire and it does not support all Android APIs, thus not all Android apps will work on it. So no Kindle Fire support does not mean no Android app.

I've never had a problem using any android app on my kindle. I know I can't buy any android app I want on my kindle fire from the amazon store... but I've been able to move apps over from my PC to my kindle and they worked fine.

I noticed that you are new here so I will welcome you to the OOTP Community. This is the one place you will find many answers to any questions you may have about OOTP Baseball. Taking a guess here, I would say its not likely there will be a release for Android this year. The development of OOTP13 is likely near an end. Pretty soon the Developers will shift their full focus to the development of OOTP14, which we hope will be released around Opening Day 2013.

But again, I am only guessing here. Again, welcome to the Community!

I am, by the way, one of the members of the OOTP Tech Support Team.

Cheers!

Unfortunately, developing for Android is a much bigger PITA than we initially thought. That means, there will be no iOOTP for Android anytime soon. Sorry guys
