Minor leaguers released in error

I have all my manager settings for me to handle everything, including minor league signings, releases, etc. After my minor league teams finished for their seasons, suddenly a lot of the players were released by the computer. Fortunately I noticed while I could still re-sign most of them but some of my best prospects were already signed by other teams.

Is anyone else seeing any of the weird behavior? The releases and minor league players retiring after 1 year is something apparently new to this version. I have never seen it before in older versions.

It seems to me that minor league managers do not consider the "prospect value" of a player only it is current ability.

I noticed in my minor league system that the managers choose ofter fringe player in the lineup because they are at the moment a little better than my prospect but have no upside. The minor league managers wants to win now.

This is true. If I allow the AI to set the lineups, many of my draft picks are never used as starters so I have it set for me to set the lineups. I guess a way around it is to only have the players I want on the minor league rosters and use ghost players to fill out the roster. For some reason I'm not really crazy about using ghost players because I have had a few players who were in my system that were really terrible when I signed them but somehow they managed to develop into pretty good players. You just never know when you will find that surprise. On the other hand I've had a few good prospects that just fizzled out and never amounted to anything. So, I like to have full rosters.

I found out what happened. Somewhere along the way the game turned on all the historical options including retire players. My league is not historical so I figure it selected random players. It became obvious something was screwed up when 13 of my 25 man roster retired, including 7 of my starting lineup and a starting pitcher who just had a 29 win season, when the offseason started.

You get this with and without ghost players. The only thing ghost players do is fill empty roster spots if you don't have a player to put in that spot. It has no effect on development.

I understand. What I am saying is if I had not signed any of those players just to fill slots normally filled by ghosts, I would never have noticed their development into legit players.
