Quite frankly, the weirdest league you could be in!

Howdy!

Sean Clifford here, I found my way over to this message board from the Fast Break Basketball community. I've been playing OOTP for about 5 months now, but never realized that this message board existed! I'm at the point where I think I can make a great Sim League, as I have the time, and the knowledge of OOTP4 to start off a good league.

I have always loved baseball, and loved everything about the game, but I am twisting the baseball game around with this league. I have always loved football sim leagues, just because of the game by game excitement. Therefore, I am combining baseball with some football ideas, and turning it into 1 sim league!

Here's how it works. We will use 16 teams to start off (expansion in the future), and I will only use about 50% of the MLB player database. Teams will then be randomly drafted by the computer.

Here's where the craziness begins. Each team will only play a 16 game schedule, just like a football league. We will sim each week on Sundays, including a Monday Night Game of the Week, where we will sim it in a AIM chatroom, and have a play by play.

Also, each team will only have 1 starting pitcher, with no relievers or closers. The starting pitcher will be like a quarterback, pitching in every game, and every inning. I will set up the league so that they do not get fatigued.

You will have a 15 man roster, and a 5 man minor league system. On the minor league system, you can have 2 backup pitchers, in case of an injury to your SP, or bad performance. The other 3 minor leaguers will be back up hitters.

We will conduct a 2 round rookie draft each year, and all rookies will be "MLB ready", meaning it will not take them 4-5 years in the Minors to develop.

All in all, this is a completely different league compared to baseball, but that is why I made it. I want people to have fun, and get together in a chatroom, talking, and just simply having fun! This league will be a breather from normal baseball leagues, where you have to scroll through 15 days of box scores a week. In this new league, every game will count.

If interested in this new league, email me at mondaynightbaseball@yahoo.com with the following info:

First/Last Name:
Email:
AOL Screen Name (required for live chats):
Age:
5 Teams of Choice:

Whatever MLB team you choose, you will get their logo and team name only. You will not get their players, as we are doing a draft, and you will not get their stadium, because everyone will make their own stadium.

A website will be up by the end of the day at a temporary location. I will buy my own web domain once the league is close to filled.

Thanks for your time,

Sean Clifford

Interesting idea. You may want to consider allowing the teams 1 or 2 relief pitchers, though.

I'm admittedly not a fan of football, but aren't most quarterbacks relieved by a backup throughout the season, or even within a single game, injury or not?

You have a valid point. I'm thinking the backup SP should be on the roster now, just in case of an injury or something like that. However, I do not think (could be wrong) that teams change QB's in the middle of the game, if there is no injury. It's very hard for teams to adapt from 1 QB to the next in 1 game. The only way it really happens is if the QB is having a horrible game and the team wants a change. Thanks for the suggestion!

About 18 counting 2 weeks of playoffs. So yes, only about 2 seasons per real year. The pace this league uses, is the same as a league that would sim about 15 days a week.

We need more owners! If you are questioning just what this league could do for you, join and you'll find out it will be a lot of fun! I will be devoting my free time to this league, and doing a bunch of extra add-ons for this league! In the future we might even offer a trophy to the winner of the league.

Philadelphia
St. Louis

Those are the teams gone.

Side note- Every team will have an even financial system to start out with, as I'm told that's the best way to keep things fair.

id be interested if you simmed a little often, but in football the best team usually wins, if u have a baseball league with only 16 games then the best team might not make the playoffs

The Cleveland Browns made the Playoffs over Miami, Denver, and New England New England beat the Rams in last year's superbowl. Not always the best team wins And actually, with each team having just one pitcher, the better team will win more often, as the possibility of "bad number 4 starters against a teams ace" won't occur.

Amazingly, the league is full in just 12 hours! However, we are still taking "waiting list" applications, and possible expansion owner applications. So if you'd like to be on either of those lists, email me at mondaynightbaseball@yahoo.com
