So Many Walks

I love OOTP but I've had continual problems with lots of walks in games. I play out all of my games, and my teams consistently rank last in the league in walks allowed and first in the league in walks drawn. The statistics for starting pitchers seem normal, but relievers give up tons of walks, often two or three in a row. My relievers give up close to one walk per inning, even the ones with high control ratings.

I've had this problem with every OOTP since OOTP9, and I keep thinking it will go away in the next version, but no luck so far. I've tried turning off the warmup rule, changing the stat modifiers, and avoiding the "pitch around" function completely, but nothing has worked. I'm shocked that I haven't found any other threads about this because it's been such a recurring problem for me, to the point where I get very frustrated and start a new game file. Any ideas?

Go in and adjust your settings. Go to setup, then strategy tab. Edit away.

Yep. I find dropping (or adding) things by .200 points helps gives noticible but small boosts so use that as your starting point

Reading comprehesion is a good thing

I would check and see what the overall league stat is for walks. If you are playing a modern type game then about 3.1-3.5 walks/game is normal. Where does your team rank in overall walks allowed? Is what you are saying about your relievers based on stats or just perception? Sometimes when playing out games we tend to remember the bad or frustrating things in a more extreme way then the stats bear out.

If these things check out then by all means try lowering the walk modifier again, maybe by a higher amount and see if it helps.

What is your team walk rate for starters and relievers?
What are the actual control ratings for your relievers?
