Like your analysis, man. Nice result too.

If you did that poll over here you'd probably get a similar result - except for the number surveyed would have the last two numbers chopped off it.

Not to gainsay Mr. Fluttershy, but I can see the Cubs on this list waaaaaaay before the Braves. That's just a reflection of Ted Turner and TNT. I see Dodgers, Cardinals, Reds, and Giants at the very least coming before the Braves. That's not to say that the poll was incorrect, however, just emotionally wrong. No offense to the guys here with the capital A or tomahawk in their avatars.

I'm absolutely stunned that a team from the largest media market on the continent that has by far the biggest financial advantages of any team in North America would also be the most popular. Stunned.

That should be "shocked, shocked", and qualify this thread for the Captain Renault Award.

I understood what you were saying at Ted Turner.

EDIT: And it's not Mr. Fluttershy, It's just Fluttershy, get it right!

It makes sense. Cubs and Braves were blasted all over the country by their superstations. Markets that didn't have home teams would latch onto the Braves or Cubs.

Tons of both Cubs fans and Atlanta fans in the DC area (which lacked a team for decades ). Atlanta also seems to get most of the South.

Oh, um, yes, I see.

You other people, would you agree that the teams in the poll, and the ones that I listed, are the key league attractions as far as drawing people to ballparks around the country? I'm dropping the arrogant Yankees fan bit here and just being honest as far as that goes. Do the Yankees, Bosox, Cubs, Dodgers, Cardinals, Reds, and Giants constitute the breadwinners of the league?

Edit: Come to think of it, and facing facts, take the Reds out of that sentence and put the Braves back in. I did say the poll was accurate, just emotionally wrong.

We asked 2,613 people living in New York who their favorite team was, and surprise, it was the Yankees.

The presence of all four teams at the top of that list can be explained in one word... television.

No love for the Mets?

Yes, but is that cart before horse? I mean, with the exception of the Braves and TNT (I don't mean to keep beating on them, by the way), are these teams on national television so much due to sustained success and/or tradition?

Hmmm. Sox sux'd for a long time until recently. Cubbies are perennial loveable losers. Got to be the tradition (and the large media markets).

Yes, television is key but it's only satisfying demand, not creating it, IMO.

Being most popular is always the best way to gauge whether something is worthy, especially in America. Just look at Justin Beiber, Rebecca Black, Wal-mart and McDonalds.
