NABA Crowns It's First Champion
The Mexico City Diablos are the first Champions in NABA history. With a stunning sweep, the Diablos will take home the Columbus Cup.
In Game 1, the Diablos were lead by Hershel Brake. They got on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning when Jesse Dionne doubled to right center, knocking in 2 runs. Calgary was able to get a run in 3rd with a Minoru Masakado solo homer. Brake open the game up with a 2 run homerun making the score 4-1. Then, in the 7th, he made it 5-1 with a solo homerun. Calgary tried to battle back in the 9th when Alvin Lopez smacked a 3 run homerun. In the end, Mexico City was able to hold them off to win 6-4. In Game 2, the Wolfpack jumped out to an early lead in the 2nd inning when Nathaniel Avita hit a 2 run single. Then, in the 3rd, they jumped out to a 4-0 lead when Richard Mcfee knocked in 2 with a double down the left field line. Mexico City battled back in the 4th when Leon Guillermo knocked in Robert Duryea and Daikurou Kunimichi sac flied in James Juliano. Then in the 5th, Juliano doubled to left-center scoring Dionne and Duryea. Then Guillermo singled to right, scoring Juliano. The Diablos took a 5-4 lead. Mecixo City pitching was able to shut down Calgary the rest of the way and secure the 8-5 victoty. In Game 3, Mexico City jumped ahead 3-0 when James Juliano smaked a solo homer and Scott Bragdon slugged a 2 run homerun. Calgary fought back with 1 in the 7th, The Diablos pulled away in the 8th with 3 runs to go ahead 6-1. Then, in the 9th, Mexico City was able to pretty much close out the game when they scored 5 runs on 5 hits. Calgary tried to save face in the 9th with 3 runs, but in the end Mexico City had too much and won 11-4. Game 4 started out with neither team able to score in the first 5 innings. Mexico City was able to get a run across in the 6th when Hershel Brake singled home Duryea. Calgary pulled ahead in the bottom half of the 6th scoring 2 runs. Miquel Melendrez singled to right scoring Masakado from 2nd. Hurtado scored on a Ken Durso single and Melendrez was thrown out at the plate on the same day. Mexico City scored the final 2 runs of the game in the top half of the 7th. George Morales lead off the inning with a triple and Jesse Dionne singled him home in the next at bat. Duryea hit a sac fly to left field and Dionne was able to score on an errand thorw by the leftfielder. Mexico City held them off the rest of the way for the 3-2 victory and the series sweep.
