Linux won't hold license

Almost every time I boot up OOTP it asks me for my license key again. In OOTP11 I believe it did the same thing but only when I updated by system. I haven't run an upgrade in awhile but I still get the message. I keep using the same license key without problems.

Anybody know why?

It seems I'm always asked for my licence key when I load the game for the first time after loading it from a different location. I.E. I was asked to enter my key Friday night when loading at home after the whole week I loaded from work. When I loaded this morning at work it asked again.

The only thing that's different is the WiFi. Why would that was any affect on the game?

FYI I am having the same issue. My linux install is not being updated often yet OOTP constantly requests my license activation. So far I can just type it in and the game is licensed but I don't think I should have to do this all the time. Any suggestions?

My problem seems to be fixed, I haven't been asked for my licence and I frequently open the game on different networks.

The only thing I did was uninstall the game in attempts to fix another issue so I suppose it's possible reinstalling may have fixed this one as well

Don't know if anyone is still having this issue. There is a bug in the linux install that ties the registration to an IP subnet. When you change networks (ie: home to office, home to offline, WiFi to LAN, etc), the license gets borked and you need to release and reinstall the license.

I submitted a ticket to PISD and they sent me instructions on how to fix this issue. I was told they will attempt to add the fix to the next Linux installer so that this issue doesn't happen again.

OOTP does not specifically control the license subsystem for Linux, that is why I had to contact PISD.

A temp work around is to release the license then reinstall it. This however doesn't work for offline registration (ie: if you are playing OOTP while on a plane). PISD gave me info on how to fix this and I've not had this problem again. I believe the fix is specific to your license and install, and thus the specific instructions given to me won't work for anyone else. You need to contact PISD and they can help. They were very helpful and quick to respond.

Good luck!

I uninstalled then reinstalled and I am still having this issue. I even installed a fresh copy of Linux Mint 12 and its still happening. Has anybody commented on this officially and do we know if it might be fixed in OOTP 13?

Same issue here. It seems to be checking that the same WiFi connection was used as the last time the game was turned off. I'm guessing it is one of the ways to verify the game isn't suddenly installed on a new computer.

The workaround for me is to have the wireless turned off as I'm opening or closing the game. If there is no WiFi when it is shut down, it has nothing to compare it to when it is turned on (or that's how the theory goes, seems to be working for me)

To those experiencing this issue, please follow the advice that Overkiller mentions in his post. That, at the moment, is the best advice us in Technical Support have been able to find so far.

To contact PISD Ltd., please use the following email address: someone@pisd.co.uk

Thanks!

Well, that was useless. All PISD does is refer you back to "Paul" (that's the name of the guy who emailed me), and all he does is refer people back to this thread. Sad. I'm faced with two options: ask for a refund, meaning I won't ever play the game again, or have to submit my license every time I shut down OOTP13 (because I'm not going to just let the game sit there and use up resources on my Linux Mint 12 machine. Actually, this isn't even sad, it's pathetic. I've never seen licensing issues handled like this on any other video game I've ever purchased, regardless of platform.
