A little morbid. Great to see the storylines and such in the game but that is one I could do without

I would like to see something that means that this story could only apply to fictional players, rather than those historical/major league quickstart players.

How did his team do playing in his honor?

This is not something I'd normally divulge, but I have to join in this conversation. My son, who was 7, died in May. He had battled a metabolic disease for five years, but even so, his death was sudden.
While he was sick and after his death, OOTP has been a great escape for me from that horrible situation. I'm sure its also an escape for many others here who find difficult challenges in real life. Despite that, I don't find inclusion of this 'news story' bothersome. I'd prefer it not be there, but seeing it there, and perhaps having it appear in one of my leagues, is not upsetting. I'm not sure why it doesn't bother me; I would have expected it to. But it doesn't.

I think the options for missing time could include some of the great ones that Gehrig38 mentioned like Missing the team bus, fighting in the locker room, being benched for insubordination could be better integrated rather than a death in the family. Or just say "death in the family". I don;t see the long-term difference to the immersion to have the morbid details. |

I had this same storyline come up in my league. It does add to the realism but to me this is a bit much. I have gone in an edited the default_storylines.xml and removed the 'Child Death story'. I think I did it right and should eliminate this event from the game for me.

Life and how one views it changes after one has kids, I think. At least it did for me. If I would have read this five years ago I don't think I would have formed an opinion one way or the other, but now that I have two sons of my own (aged 4 years and 18 months), I find any story about the death of a child affects me in some way, even in make-believe baseball games.
I hate to read about it, think about it, or hear about it. I like that Markus and the gang include real-world scenarios in stories and I can't argue that the death of children doesn't exist but I could probably do without this one and continue in a make-believe world of baseball where no child is ever harmed or goes to bed hungry ![]() Also, it says he is going to miss "a couple of days"?? If anything would ever happen to either of my sons, I can assure you I would miss more than a couple of days of work...regardless of how important that work is. However, I understand the time is determined as a random occurrence in a video game and only done for balance purposes. Just seems so wrong to me though. |

This is slightly off topic but it falls into the morbid category....back in the 70's, the great LA Dodgers pinch hit artist, Manny Mota, was being interviewed, and he was asked if it bothered him that he was not a starter. He replied that it really did not as he always knew that he would be the #1 pick off the "Ghoul List". It turns out the the "Ghoul List" was baseball slang among the players for the secret draft list that is in the MLB Offices, to be used if a team is ever wiped out in a plane crash. Each team was to supply a list of players that could be used in a special draft to restock the team. Now with contracts being what they are now, I wonder if they still have it set up this way?
Anyway, wouldn't it blow your mind to see your team wiped out in an OOTP plane crash?
