Bryce Harper

I have done 3 test sims and each time Harper was placed on waivers and claimed my other teams. Has anyone else seen this happen?

I did an MLB redraft league with v11 and he's been on Toronto his whole career thus far.

For whatever reason, he's on the Nationals 40 man roster in the MLB quickstart despite playing in single A. Anytime Nationals need to clear a roster spot, Harper is probably selected due to his low current ratings.

The reason is he got a Major League Contract when he signed, so he has to be on the 40 man roster. You could bump his ratings a bit or go into Commish mode and make the Nats put him back and take someone else off.

Doh, my bad. I was checking the ESPN 40 man roster and didn't see him in the outfielder section. Didn't realize they have a minors section at the bottom of the page

I don't know if this should be considered a bug or not, but the AI needs to take potential into consideration when it sends players to waivers.

I would say it's a bug, yes. There's no way the Nationals would do this in real life.

It's an extremely serious bug if the AI isn't acknowledging potentials when making waiver decisions. I thought that bug was eradicated several versions ago, so it would kind of suck if it was back.

No, it is definitely back. Guys that get put on the 40 man because of contract, or because the AI is stupid and puts then on before their time, definitely end up getting waved. I wouldn't say it is an "epidemic," because not every top prospect gets put on the 40 man. But I have seen too many top prospects that ended up waived multiple times. I already sent in a ticket, and I suggest you do, too. It is quite apparent the AI values potential too much in putting players on the 40 man, and too little in who it considers to waive.

I am in 2018, he played 2011 in A and AA, a Sept call up to Washington in 2012 and played 6 years in Washington before signing a 5 year, $17,200,000 per deal with San Diego...

I am pretty sure this is because the top few picks in the draft demand major league contracts. This requires them to be put on the 40 man, even though they are 3+ years away from the majors. The run out of options before they are ready for the show.

Regardless, the AI needs to learn to make some other journeyman take the hit and be put on waivers. Makes building a minor league system difficult at best if they end up doing this regularly.

Some, but not all. I've seen several that did not (it says in their histories whether they sign major league contracts or not).

They don't.. at least I haven't seen it at all using the MLB QS in v11 last year.

It also seems to me that the AI puts guys on the 40 man to protect them from the Rule 5 draft and then a couple of months later forgets why they have this Single A player on their 40 man and they waive him so they can take him off. I don't have any evidence for this other than I see some guys on waivers with a minor league contract and stats from no higher than A ball and I scratch my head and wonder what they were doing on the 40 man in the first place.

Can anyone confirm to me that this issue re: top prospects ending up on waivers was solved in one of the recent patches? I just noticed the thread and have been contemplating turning waivers back "on" in my ongoing league. Thanks.
