LOB query

In the box score what does LOB mean? I assumed it meant Left on Base but the individual totals never match the team totals in the footnotes?

This sounds vaguely familiar. Screenshot of that portion of the boxscore?

Ok I stole this from another thread but you can see that the LOB column for The Mets is 24 but the Team LOB is 12 in the notes. The LOB column for the Phillies is 27 but the team LOB is 14 in the notes. I have noticed this in regular newspaper box scores as well so obviously my reading of what the LOB next to the player means must be wrong...

Sorry, the Phillies total is 13, but it obviously doesn't tally with the players LOB totals..

Ah, I got it - The individual left on base totals can be duplicated because 3 guys could leave the same runner on base in one inning but the team total just counts that guy once...

And the team LOB total in the line notes indicates the number of batters who LOB, at least in the example above.

Yup! If I understand it correctly: Another way of saying it is that the amount of outs doesn't matter for individual LOB stats, but team LOB only gets recorded at the end of a half-inning. For example, if there's a man (A) on base with one out, and both batters B and C after him don't get on base, both B and C get scored with an LOB, since they both left A on base, but the team LOB is 1, since the team left 1 runner on base at the end of the half-inning. Not a hundred percent sure though, but I think this is how it works .
