Johnson and Nolasco are a very good 1-2 and hopefully the 3 other guys can pitch to a fairly high level. As for the bullpen we have a few guys who look as if they will be more than respectable when called upon, but again there doesn't seem to be a great deal of depth in the farm system. |

We have a problem with 3rd base that needs attention and maybe a better catcher is needed, although Buck is a decent hitter I'm not that impressed with his defense or his 3 year contract. |

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria, has set the goal for the Marlins to exceed .500 ball this season. We feel that if the key guys can stay healthy and play to their potential, then we may be able to slightly exceed Mr Loria's expectations, but the Phillies and Braves will have to have a bad year for us to even consider post season baseball this year. Our budget for the year is $100,100,000(24th in league), payroll for the year is $64,7200,000(also 24th in the league). We've bumped our player development by $2 million taking the figure spent in this area to $10 million. As for scouting this year we're spending $6,220,000($3,020,000 domestic and $3,200,000 on international scouting). As for new players, we've had talks with Troy Glaus and Bengie Molina but has of yet have not been able to reach an agreement on the contracts they would sign. We've had some luck with Waldis Joaquin who's considering our offer of a minor league deal, Joaquin who had an off year last season(9.64ERA in 4.2 IP) but if he gets into a groove in AAA he could well make the big club this season. Upcoming series: 1st-3rd April Vs New York Mets Projected Starters; Game 1: J.Johnson Vs M.Pelfrey Game 2: R.Nolasco Vs C.Young Game 3: J.Vazquez Vs J.Niese Last edited by Doc_Brown; 06-30-2011 at 12:06 AM. |

April 1st-3rd; New York Mets @ Florida Marlins
Game 1(1/162) Att:38, 155 ![]() ![]() ![]() A great start to the year for the Marlins as Dickey was chased out of the game in the 4th and the Mets bullpen struggled to contain the Marlins offense, as all 9 starters took at least 1 hit of the Mets pitching. Johnson was solid in his 6.1 IP and the bullpen aside from Dunn who struggled and was tagged for 2 runs in 0.2 IP, did a good job in closing out the game. Game 2(2/162) Att:36,190 ![]() ![]() ![]() After yesterday's performance, optimism was high in the Marlins clubhouse and after the 1st inning it had increased maybe a little too much, but Beltran homered for the Mets in the 2nd and started the fightback, Nolasco had a meltdown in the 5th as he struggled with his control and the Mets took advantage, they added 2 more runs in the 7th and even though Infante homered for us in the 8th there was nothing more we could do to change the result. Game 3(3/162) Att:31,021 ![]() ![]() ![]() The Mets crept into an early lead and that was more than enough as Niese shut down our offense, we pulled a run back in the 7th but the Mets hit back with 2 runs in the 8th and 2 more in the 9th thanks to Coghlan dropping a fly ball, then Gee pitched 1.1 Inning and recorded his 1st Major League save, as the Mets took the series 2-1. |

April 4 th:
Marlins News: No roster moves or injuries as of yet. We're still waiting to hear from Waldis Joaquin regarding the minor league contract offer, we're hoping he signs it and he'll be assinged to AAA New Orleans Zephyrs, who start their season on the 7th. Around the Horn: Injuries around the League: 2/4 R.Brignac(Tampa Bay Rays) Strained knee 8 weeks. 3/4 J.Mauer(Minnesota Twins) Hamstring strain 6 weeks. Ejections: 1/4 H.Pence(Houston Astros) and R.Halladay(Philadelphia Phillies) were ejected in the 6th inning, after Pence charged the mound after being hit by a Halladay fast ball, the Phillies went on to win the game 7-4. Both players have been suspended for 5 games. Contract news: 5/4 L.Berkman signed a new deal with the St.Louis Cardinals, it's a 3 year deal(worth $15 million a year) with the first 2 years guaranteed, the 3rd year is dependent on Berkman making 550 plate apperances in 2013. Next up we welcome the Nationals who've also got off to a 1-2 start, for a 3 game series; Projected starters G1:A.Sanchez VS T.Gorzelanny G2:C.Volstad VS G.Mock G3:J.Johnson (1-0 1.42ERA 1BB 6K) VS J.Zimmermann (0-1 12.00ERA 0BB 0K) Last edited by Doc_Brown; 06-30-2011 at 08:17 PM. |

April 5th-7th; Nationals @ Marlins
Game 1(4/162)Att: 29,788 ![]() ![]() ![]() The game started slowly until the top of the 3rd, when Gorzelanny got his 1st extra base hit of his career and turned it into a triple, Zimmerman later in the inning drove in the run and the Nats were up by 1. In the 5th Buck sent one into the crowd to tie the game at 1, we had a few chances in the 6th to add to the lead but failed to take them and were then promptly punished by the Nats in the 7th as the Nats added 2 more runs to the score, their bullpen managed to see it through and Coffey recorded his 2nd save of the year. Game 2(5/162)Att: 30,682 ![]() ![]() ![]() After yesterday's disappointment the players were urged to get off to a quick start, and after 3 innings we had a 2-0 lead, the Nationals didn't look like they were going to trouble us and they were put further out of the game when we scored 2 runs in the 4th and 5th, Zimmermann in this start at least managed to last longer than his 1st start of the year, Volstad was going for a CG but in the 9th we pulled him with his pitch count a little high and this early in the season we didn't want to risk anything. Coghlan was a home run shy of the cycle and it would have been 1 of the natural variety. Game 3(6/162)Att: 30,193 ![]() ![]() ![]() The Nationals were behind the 8-ball in the 1st as Mock was chased out of the game in the 1st after giving up 5 runs on 4 hits, from then on it was damage control for their bullpen. Johnson again pitched another solid 6 innings and Murphy got his 1st hit and home run for us, Ramirez also got his 1st home run of the year and for the Nationals their expensive free agent signing got his 1st home run of the year. |

Nice Job! I can't even imagine how long it must have taken you to write out all the lineups and contract info for your players!

April 8th:
Marlins News: No major news, everyone is healthy and no roster moves have been made. We're still waiting to hear back from Waldis Joaquin about the minor league deal offered if we haven't heard back by the 10th then we'll cancel the offer. We've headed out on the road for the 1st time this season for a 9 game/ 3 series trip starting in Houston. Around the horn: Injuries around the League: 4/5 M.Ramirez(Tampa Bay Rays) is out for 5 weeks with a sprained ankle. 4/7 N.Cruz(Texas Rangers) is out for 7 months with a broken knee cap, it's a big blow for Texas who were hoping for another good offensive year from Cruz. Good Performances: 4/5 R.Howard(Philadelphia Phillies) hit 3 home runs in a 7-6 loss vs the New York Mets. Contract news: 4/6 M.Buehrle(Chicago White Sox) signs a new 3 year extension with the White Sox in a 3 year deal @$15 million a year, the contract also contains a $480,000 bonus if Buehrle wins the Cy Young Award. Next up we start our 9 game road trip with a series vs the Houston Astros ,who find themselves in last place of the NL Central with an 0-6 record; the projected starters are G1:R.Nolasco (0-1 11.57ERA 3BB 6K) Vs B.Myers (0-0 3.86ERA 1BB 4K) G2:J.Vazquez (0-1 4.91ERA 2BB 4K) Vs B.Norris (0-1 22.50ERA 2BB 0K) G3:A.Sanchez (0-1 4.26ERA 1BB 9K) Vs N.Figueroa (0-0 2.57ERA 2BB 4K) |

April 8th-10th
Game 1(7/162) Att:40,724 ![]() ![]() ![]() The Astros were quick out of the gate and were out to show that their 0-6 start was nothing more than a blip. Pence and Wallace helped the Astros build a lead and until the 9th inning it looked like they would seal their 1st win of the year, but Lyon blew his 2nd save of the year and the Marlins took a 1 run lead into the bottom of the 9th, we just needed to Nunez to get wrap up the bottom of the 9th with no drama but he give up a triple to the 1st hitter he faced and the Astros tied it up so the game went into extra innings, luckily for us Morrison hit his 1st homer of the year and scored us 3 much needed runs, Dunn came in to pitch the bottom of the 10th and although he had a few guys on base he hels on to record his 1st career save. Game 2(8/162) Att: 36,811 ![]() ![]() ![]() The Astros got out to an early lead and Norris pitched 6 solid innings and looked in no trouble whatsoever, but in the 7th the Marlins finally clicked and with the help of Stanton's 2nd homer of the year we tied it up at 3-3, but the Astros picked up a run in the bottom of the 7th and their bullpen managed to see it through as they claimed their 1st win of the year. Game 3(9/162) Att: 35,847 ![]() ![]() ![]() Wallace bagged his 2nd homer of the series and 3rd of the year in the 1st inning, the game was tied in the 4th and we then took a 1 run lead in the 6th, Sanchez pitched a good game, but the Astros refused to be beaten and tied it up in the bottom of the 8th, again lady luck was with us as we added a run in the top of the 9th and this time Numez came in and got the job done to claim his 1st save of the year. |
