Ties?

i'm running an 8 team single division test league; no playoffs. i simmed until the end of the year and noticed that two teams were tied at the end of the season. Wasn't a one game playoff automatically scheduled in previous versions? Or has it always been that we need to manually schedule that game?

It has ALWAYS been that leagues with no playoffs get no automatic tiebreakers scheduled. You have always had to schedule them yourself (or if you didn't, the winner was chosen by reverse alphabetical order).
I complained about this for a while, but I finally decided that I preferred being able to schedule what I wanted rather than what the automatic process might pick.

For some reason, not having the playoffs seems to mean that Markus can't use the same code for tiebreakers in these leagues as is used in reagular leagues and would be a big project for him to undertake for what really is a very small percentage of people who play with leagues that have no playoffs.

So we schedule......

I could have sworn that it scheduled the tie breakers in versions 8-9. I just remember getting grumpy due to the wildcard race being shown even when playoffs were disabled. Plus, if 2 teams tied for 2nd, they would play a meaningless tie breaker game.

That is possible, I don't remember. By ALWAYS, I meant since OOTP10....

But I think you may be thinking about leagues with no Wild Card still showing the Wild Card standings.

Could be, I know I made an ass of myself whining about this issue. Oh well, so many other ways to play the game.

This does NOT mean that you can't play without playoffs. You just have to schedule the tiebreaker game(s) manually, is all. Though, if you're one who likes to sim many seasons at a time, it would be a detriment.....

Ugh! I wasn't offended at all. I was actually poking fun at myself for being so bullheaded about the whole issue. Last year in another thread the ability to manually schedule the game was pointed out to me(and I think it was you)and my problems were solved. Of course, now I play a single league with a wildcard, so call me sybil

Tiebreaking still needs an overhaul, for both fictional and historical leagues.

I don't disagree, but anything I can manually circumvent is not at the top of my wish list.

Its been a few years since I OOTP'ed. Did they ever fix the three-way tie issue at all?

I remember playing a season where there was a three way tie for the division. Two teams then had a playoff while team 3 sat out, and the winner of the first tiebreaker then took the division without team 3 ever playing since the winner of the game then won one more game over the sitting out third team, and thus had the best record.

I remember being annoyed by it since I was playing team 3.

EDIT: And holy COW you can tell how long its been by my signature... ROFL
