vesting options

There are supposed to be vesting options in the contracts has anyone used this yet, and how does it work?

Vesting options are my favorite new feature this year. You no longer have to worry about giving your aging stars contract extensions.

When it's time to negotiate a multi-year extension with a player, you will notice that there is a tick box labeled "Optional" next to the final year of the proposed extension. If you select the "Optional" tick box a pull-down menu appears below the option year. Of the three possible options, you need to select (obviously) the "Vesting option." From there you have a couple of metrics (games played and plate appearances for position players) that you can base the vesting option on.

If the player reaches the goal set in his vesting option, his contract is guaranteed for the next season. If he misses the goal, his contract is voided and you have the option to renegotiate like you would with any other upcoming FA.

I love this feature!

I love the buyouts even more. Allows me to offer my 34 year old 2B $20 mil in the 4th year of an extension he so badly wants (as a player option), and if I don't want him, I can buy him out for $5 mil.

Just offered my first contract with a vesting option. Waiting to hear back. Very excited for the new feature though.

Also confirmed that the AI is using the vesting options too, which is pretty nice. An awesome, but aging pitcher in my league just got signed to a three year deal with the final one vested on 190 innings pitched - smart.
