Ballpark Image: Soccer Pitch turned in Ballball Park

I'm doing a fictional league based on the British Isles that has the teams based on their F.C. counterparts. In doing so I figured "What am I going to do about stadiums." After trying a couple things I wasn't satisfied with I decided to create a 3D image in Google Sketchup (My 1st try with the program).

Here's what I came up with:
1) This is to scale. Since most pitches are near the same size I went with the average for these pitches. The wall are 40 feet tall down the sides, 11 feet to center.

The average, OF dimensions are 174-242-380-367-380-242-171, Walls 40-40-11-11-11-40-40-40, BPF 1.319 Avg, 1.063 2B, 0.069 3B, 1.700 HR.
(There will be a lot of offense in this league)

2) The grass/infield textures are from the DMB stadium creator mod. I decided to go with the baseline set up since I figured the Football clubs wouldn't want their pitch getting totally wrecked.

3) I'll probably overlay this on an actual photo of the city or stadium for each team to make the rest of the ballpark image.

Here you go...

Interesting concept.

A few things:

1) You can download most EPL pitches from Google 3D Warehouse, (Barclays Premier League 2009-10 by M@r|0 - Google 3D Warehouse) and then put a baseball field on top of that! Doing the stadiums would be a lot quicker that way.

2) I have previously made baseball jerseys for all (at the time current) EPL teams. They can be found here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...l-jerseys.html

3) If you would like, I would gladly help you with this project, or can provide tips for using Google SketchUp. Here is the 3D infield template that I start with: Baseball Infield by ry1220 - Google 3D Warehouse

4) I thought we were done with cookie-cutter stadiums!

5) Google SketchUp is very useful for designing architecture (such as ballparks) but it's really bad for rendering final images. Not to nitpick, as it's the technology limiting you, but there is horrible aliasing on the edges. I use the free program Kerkythea to render, which has a SketchUp plugin.

I've actually done uniforms and such for my 32 team league. I wan't too worried about the aliasing since I was going to resize anyway and the program would handle some of that.

This is my final image I'll be using to get an idea.

I use Blender and it never occurred to me to model one of those ballpark myself... I should give it a try.

Wow. Anfield came out how I pretty much wanted. Would you really be willing?

This is what I started with but I couldn't figure out the program and I couldn't figure out how to get a consistent angle/distance from behind home plate. I decided to simplify and just do every stadium from one angle.

After seeing that shot I took another look at the ballpark factors and I'd think I'd prefer to do the old angled "LA Coliseum ballpark layout.

I'm going to take a shot at a couple and see how it goes. Would you like a list of the fields to try it out?

Sure! I'm really interested in doing this project for the fun of it alone. PM/post a list, the park dimensions and wall heights for each, and the angle you'd prefer (my Villa Park take vs Anfield take), and any other details you can think of (such as which stands to show, etc.).

Wow. Thanks! The Anfield take is better. I can re-figure out the dimensions from a spreadsheet I have for each park but the long side of the pitch will either be left or right field so angled out from the corner of the pitch.

I'd like the side of the stadium with the most character to be visible. I like the wall difference like you have it in Anfield. That works for me.

The fences will always be 40ft on the long side and 11ft on the short side. (If possible a plexiglass/clear appearance would be cool for the long side but you need not worry if that is out of reach).

It's a 32 team league and i just checked and all stadiums are available in 3D except 2 (Bolded)

Premier League North
Aberdeen (Pittodrie), Bohemian (Dalymount), Celtic (Celtic Park), Dundee United (Tannadice), Rangers (Ibrox), Heart of Midlothian (Tynecastle), Hibernian (Easter Road), Linfield (Windsor)

Premier League South
Arsenal (Emirates), Aston Villa (Villa Park), Cardiff City (Cardiff), Chelsea (Stamford Bridge), Liverpool (Anfield), Manchester (Old Trafford), Newcastle United (St. James), Tottenham (White Hart)

Championship League North
Albion (Cliftonhill), Dundee (Dens), Hamilton Academical (New Douglas), Kilmarnock (Rugby Park), Motherwell (Fir Park), Partick Thistle (Firhill), Raith (Starks), Shamrock (Tallaght)

Championship League South
Barry Town (Jenner Park), Blackburn (Erwood), Everton (Goodison), Manchester City (Manchester), QPR (Loftus), Sunderland (Stadium of Light), West Ham (Bolelyn), Wolverhampton (Molineaux)

*I always include the Albion Rovers though they are D3 simply because I like the team.

Could you start with the Premier League?

Another (if possible), may be a screen on the short side to keep fans from getting killed by a foul ball. A solid wall is fine though on the outfield. They'll just have to keep some seats empty.

Here how the setup was in the old LA coliseum and a current game in the same venue.

These are amazing, RY. The lighting effects and shadows, the ads on the stands, the dimensions...just an excellent effort!

Thanks, but I'm sort of cheating. I use other peoples' stadiums (mostly the models you would see in Google Earth) posted to Google's 3D Warehouse. I then remove all football-related pieces, such as goals and corner flags, and overlay my baseball field on top of the pitch. I can, however, take credit for the entire baseball field, each stadium's dimensions, the lighting and the shadows.

I tried doing the same thing with MLB parks (using Google Earth 3-D maps and adjusting them for use in OOTP) and I could never get them to look this good haha...so I know how much work goes into this and that's got to be appreciated even if/when the template already exists.
