NOOOO!!! STUPID OOTP! :mad:

Top of the 9th, two outs, count of 0-2, I am up 6-0, with 0s all the way across the board, and my starter with 19 Ks.

The very next swing, is a homerun! Perfect game, no-hitter, AND a shut-out! Gone! In one friggin fell swing of the friggin bat!

Would have been my very first no-no-no in close to ten years of playing OOTP, too.

The last batter didn't even strike out. Instead, he grounded out, preventing the pitcher form another milestone: 20 ks in a game. Would have broken my league record.

That is all.

Understand your frustration....Been playing since ver. 4 and have gone into the 9th 3 times with a pitcher having a no-no, and had each one of them broken up in some way. My fictional leagues have had no-hitters, but as far as the teams I have managed, its never happened.

Yeah, not only that, but my team is blowing it at the end of the season. Granted, I was the first team to clinch the playoffs in the league. But I am now on a 5 game losing streak, with a record of 2-8 in the last 10 games.

Started out weak this season, at 10-13 in April. Went 18-11 in May, 19-9 in June, which culminated in a 23-5 record in July.

After getting so used to winning, we are now 15-14 in August, with one game left to play in the month before September call-up time. (Playing AAA Richmond Braves currently, so I will probably lose all of my key players just in time for the playoffs like what happened last year after being swept in the first round. At least all the other contenders will as well. The key players of the AA Mississippi Braves are decent enough replacements, so long as everyone else also loses their best players to the Majors in September.)

Throughout the season, the pitcher that nearly had the perfect game, is also a rookie. Started at the bottom of the rotation, and has since worked his way up to the ace. He has topped the 250 K mark in his last game (which he left in the 6th inning with a 4-3 lead. Bullpen held them, until the 9th. My closer struck out the first two batters in a row, but ended up giving up 3 runs. I lost yet another game that I should have won 6-4. And that is against a team that is 10 games under .500, and which I have taken 8 of 9 from them....now 8 of 10.)

Last season, I had the best record ever in AAA at 104-40. .722 winning percentage. But was swept by the Norfolk Tides in the first round of the AAA play offs. They were a wildcard team too. Those guys are a bunch of asshats, taking 9 games out of the 15 that we have played against each other so far this year. 6 of which were come-from-behind in the 9th for them.

Year before that, for high-A, I had a record of 102-38. .729. I was swept in that series as well.

Baseball sure is a damned frustrating game, I tell ya.

I just had something cool and similar happen on the weekend.

I had a 1-0 no-hitter going into the 9th. Almost a perfect game...only a HB early on marred things. Ended up losing the no -hitter and the game 2-1.

Very next game, the same team had a 4-0 no hitter going against me into the 9th, and my guys woke up and I ended up winning 6-4.

I've never seen back to back no hitters fail miserably like that before!

Spalding Untouchable, Tosses No-Hitter
Monday, April 8th, 1878: Al Spalding was untouchable today at South End Grounds I, displaying a good fastball, a wicked curve and an unhittable change in his 6-0 win against the Chicago White Stockings. The Boston hurler did not allow a single hit, fanning 3 while walking 0 and entering the record books.

"Hey, this is great," Spalding told reporters after the game. "Every pitcher wants a no-hitter. This is nice, but I just want to win. The no-hitter is just a little extra icing on the victory cake."

Just had my first no hitter

Just started playing OOTP a couple of months ago. Been playing through 15 seasons in my Nippon league. My 5* starter Choji Murata threw the no hitter in game six of the championship game, giving my team the championship. What a great ending to a championship season.

Last night I had a Justin Verlander no-no (would've been my first ever, also) broken up with two outs in the 9th. Still got the shutout. My wife laughed at me as I steamed about the base hit.

lol, you joined the forums almost 3 years ago, and just now have only been playing OOTP for a few months?

Unless you really old, and time is going by a lot quicker than you think. I know that is happening to me now.

Maybe you should've had your wife press the Pitch key one final time for you for luck :-).

I haven't seen my no-hitter go beyond the 7th thus far, will brace myself if I ever get one the ninth after seeing these posts!

Hey Vinnie... I joined the forum to ask some questions about the game... Did not like the demo and returned to DMB. Just recently bought the game... Or maybe I am just getting old... My first grandchild was born 12 days ago, so that might mean something

HAH! Congrats, grandpa! My twins are also 12 days old! lol.

Sorry to hear ya didn't like OOTP's demo. Hopefully OOTP 11 (and 12?) will change your mind! It truly is an amazing game. (Except for the stupid heartbreaks! But that's the game of baseball in general.)

Another strange phenomenon on my team:

My number three pitcher has the best ERA on my team, and the third best in the league at 3.98. (He just pitched his final game of the season, and went the distance, winning 6-1, bringing his final record to 6-8). My team has the winningest record in the league. And yet, that pitcher has a losing record at 6-8.

The ace of my staff has a 4.02 ERA (with one more game to pitch before the regular season is over.) He currently has a record of 17-3. Although, he destroyed the rest of the league in strikeouts with 251 thus far, and counting. (He is on pace to have 263 Ks after his last game.) And hes a rookie to the AAA. AAA International League is a hitter's league, and that 20 year-old kid did a wonderful job, after only pitching 43 innings the year before in AA, with a total of 86 innings pitched below AAA before the start of the season. He has 182 IPs this season alone.

Other than the top three pitchers on my team, the team ERA is at 4.56. BP ERA is at 4.89. Kinda scares me for the playoffs, especially when I go up against Norfolk. I think I will promote that number three pitcher to the number two slot, and cross my fingers he has better luck with my team obtaining enough runs (more than 4!) for each of the games he pitches. lol.

What a strange and wonderful game, baseball is. (And children, for that matter! )

Congrats Daddy... Twins huh... Always wanted two for the price of one... Enjoy them always...

As for OOTP... I have really enjoyed 11. Can't wait for 12. Really having fun playing as a GM...

My edited to all perfect stats pitcher couldn't get a no hitter against all batters editted to the worst possible ratings.

So yes OOTP is stupid ,when the all 1 stats batters are getting hits on the all 250's pitcher. I think the engine is so bad I don't play the game much anymore.

That's baseball for you. Remember when Pedro Martinez pitched 9 perfect innings and then lost the perfect game in the 10th? Now THAT'S brutal.

Oh yeah? What's a better engine out there right now, as we speak? I would like to know. Might be worthwhile getting it.

I don't know if there is a better engine out there.

I just think it's pretty sad when the best possible pitcher you can create, against the worst possible batters can give up 6 hits in a game (he did), including a solo HR shot from a guy with 1/100 eye, 1/100 contact, 1/100 gap and 1/100 power. Basically his best hitting attribute is the worst hitting attribute possible among all HS players, and he's hitting a home run on a player whose worst pitching attribute is the best possible pitching attribute among all hall of fame players (and as far as I know pretty much double anything that actually occurs in the DB).

I think the sim is actually reasonable if you want a very clustered distribution of players. But if you're trying to have a wider difference between stars and average players it's very difficult. I mean I don't think it's possible for a pitcher whos 10* the best pitcher who ever lived at the peak of his career to give up 6 hits to the worst high school team of batters ever, and the HR shot was pretty jarring as well.
