Getting Back Into OOTP

Hey guys.....

I had OOTP several years ago (version 6 or 6.5) and really loved it.

I hadn't played in a few years but have pre-purchased OOTP 12. I've been reading this board regularrly and am really itching to play.

I saw that you can download version 8 for free. I was thinking of doing this to help get me familiar with the game again. My question is, how different is version 8 from what is out there now? Will I be able to learn anything from it for version 12?

I considered downloading the demo for version11...but you only get it for a week right?

Thanks.

There is a substantial difference between 8 and 12, but much less than the difference between 6.5 and 12. Get the free game and play around with it. Think of it like Spring Training.

I would hold off on downloading the 11 Demo until the end of the month. You're right that it will only be playable for a short time, so think of it as transitioning up from 8 toward 12… like a AAA rehab assignment. I would advise against going to 11 first, then backwards to 8; you'll only frustrate yourself.

I wouldn't download the 11 Demo until 12 is released. If your week runs up before the release of 12, well then, you won't be able to use it to convert your league.

What I recommend though, is just use 8 to get a feel for the game, create some leagues, try different things. Then when you get 12 create the League you want.

Playing 8 will give you a very good feel for 12. Certainly 8 won't have all the features of 12, but the user interface will be very similar. This will help you from bumbling around in 12 trying to figure out where something is and how to get to it.

Well I downloaded version 8 and am really enjoying re-playing the 1983 season. This is definitely a good way to get re-acquainted with the game.

Quick question, didn't there use to be sound effects such as crowd noise and the crack of the bat? Is it still in the game and if so, how do you activate them?

Thanks.

Unfortunately Version 8 has no sound effects...
