Staff Hiring and Firing Request
I have found myself as GM frustrated while trying to put my "stamp" on a new team with hires. It's a chicken and egg thing.
Without a vacancy, OOTP will not let you hire or make a pitch to a prospective manager to even see if he is interested in an assignment (if he's not interested in your AA manager slot then why bother?). But if you fire an existing manager first, there is no way to ensure that you will have success in finding a candidate to take a spot better than who you fired, let alone one that would improve the position. I'd like to see the ability to float offers for a staff position without having to make or have a vacancy in the first place. I also noted that at times the game doesn't allow me to promote and demote (demotee approval aside) managers within my Major and Minor League teams. Am I missing something here?

I've always been able to promote and demote managers. The contract for my pitching and hitting coaches were up this year, and I ended up promoting my AAA managers for both.
I'd like more than a few days after the World Series to decide to re-sign my managers. More than once I've gotten to the World Series, won it all, then click Finish Day, and get a message saying I need a new bench coach. Or even if I got a message like a week before their contract is up to remind me I need to worry about that, that would be useful. But yes, definitely the idea of floating an offer makes sense. Let me hire a guy first, and then shuffle around the managers. |

Yes. This is something I have wanted for a long time. In real life, I don't think managers are fired unless there's a reasonable certainty that a better replacement can be found.

Actually, at least the Mets seem to always wait until there's a vacancy before looking for a replacement. Maybe it's considered good manners? I don't know.
About the promoting/demoting managers thing, in some versions of the game you can't send personnel directly from one minor affiliate to another. (You could in Version 2006.) You have to send them to the parent club first, maybe exchanging them with another coach, then from there to their ultimate destination. I'm having a problem right now in Version 8 because after my parent club's personnel get exchanged with a minor leaguer, they're stuck in that minor affiliate. Trying to put them back on the parent club ctds the game. I have a ticket submitted. |

We should be able to hire managers away from other teams for a position in a higher league. Maybe they need a teams permission to interview.
I focus a lot on getting good personnel coaching my minor leaguer's and it could stand a lot of improvement. |

Its always driven me crazy that I have to fire somebody then hope for a better replacement. You should be able to hire-fire in that order.

or the option to promote or demote the staff member.(of course they would have the option to say no, and then you would either have to confirm or decline the signing.

For me, any improvement here would be great. If I were to list my desired enhancements for the game, this would be near the top. |
