For those with real players, what does your HOF look like?
I started in 1871 and am currently in the summer 0f 1905. I am curious to know who made other HOFs in similar universes.
I put everyone that had at least 10 years of ML service time on the ballot. I carry as many players as I like from one ballot to the next but they exit after 15 years on the ballot. I allow myself only one pick each year because I would have a tendancy to pick too many otherwise. It makes for tough but fun decisions each time. January 1st is election day. Here is a shot of the current hall though 1/1/1905 as well as the ballot for 1/1/1906 coming up in about 6 months.

I would take all the hitters out with the exception of Anson, Brouthers, and Smartwood.

Yeah, they won't hold up well over time but a universe is pretty odd by modern standards from 1871-1890ish. All of those guys, while playing in very short seasons, were multiple MVP winners or batting title, fielding, all star, et cetera leaders. Anson ended up with much bigger numbers because his career went deep into the longer schedule seasons. Anyway, I am curious who others had in a HOF from this period and how you go about making selections.

Fennelly is a dog on this list for sure. However, he lead the league in SB for 10 seasons and there were no other decent selections that year on the HOF ballot - I almost passed making a selection at all.
Also, he walked an lot. Were it not for a Mendoza-like average, he would have had a decent OBP. I cringe every year that goes by with me looking at him in the hall though. I guess even a committee of one blows it now and then.

I like what your doing adding one player a year and you've motivated me to start doing the same thing - my current game just reaching 10 years. I think the game should do this automatically - maybe a suggestion for v12. Heres the first 5 players under consideration.

It seems like creating an automated Hall of Fame ballot system wouldn't be too tough.
Ask the user to fill in perameters: How many years after retirement to enter the ballot ___ Minimum ML service time to be placed on ballot ____ Number of years allowed on the ballot ____ Date of balloting ____ Most would follow MLB and select 5 years, 10 years and 15 years Then, each year, the user is presented a ballot with the names and two check boxes - ELECT / CARRY. Elected players go to the Hall, Carried players roll over to the next ballot and players that are completely un-checked are dropped. That would beat the tar out of my manual system that takes forever - hunt for retirees, check on ML service time, copy down the stats of those that qualify, put them in a ballot, manually carry names from one ballot to the next - ugh

I really like this idea.
More simply, I have always thought it would be nice to have "year retired" as a field in the filter. That would at least reduce some of the hunting you have to do and you could see all the career stats together for the players you wanted to compare. The elect/carry boxes would be fantastic though. |

I don't know why this hasn't been added as a feature yet. Where the game gives you a 'ballot' of who is eligible for the hall of fame based on years after retirement, minimum ml service time, and even base minimum career stats (i.e. 2000 hits, 450 hrs, etc...). It would also be nice for the game to list career awards and championships to add to the mix (i.e. # of mvp awards/cy young awards, gold gloves, and how many times this player has won a championship). Just takes entirely to long to go through the long list of retired players and figure out who's eligible and who's isn't.

good lord even i could make that hall of fame, but tits cool that u give every 1 a chance, my orig 187-2010 league that i had before my pc crashed opnly had 3 hof ers. i was in 1899. i had my great great great grandpa who never played baseball who had 417 wins, another guy with 411 wins(forgot his name but he is a HOF er) and Ross Barnes who had #'s approx .339 2200 hits.
I want to re do an historical league but i hate that they add teams in teh 1880's that didnt exist until 1900. |
