3 Questions (RE: FAs, FAs and Files)

3 questions if anyone has any ideas. Thanks in advance!

1. During the free agency period none of the free agents seem to start signing until after the first of the next year. This seems to be due to budgets rolling over, is that the case? Seems like most teams bugets are tapped until the begining of the next year.

2. I am playing with the start up rosters, and I am 5 seasons in. I have a number of 3, 2 and 1 star free agents that just dont sign. These are long time MLB players in some cases, quality SPs, relivers and position players that just dont get signed. It's not just 1 or 2 of them, there are a 30 or so of them year after year. Any tips on avoiding this to add to the realism?

3. Now 5 years in the game is slowing down a bit for me, primarly when I load and save the game and as I simulate individual days. Any tips on cleaning up unnecessary data to keep things running quicky?

2. I don't think 30 is too strange of a number for "big name" unsigned free agents. Every year there's established former all-stars that just kind of get left behind. Sometimes they latch on late in the year like Pedro Martinez, but for many of them, it's just part of getting "old" I guess (well, baseball-old anyway)

3. You should go into your Documents/Out of the Park Developments/OOTP 11/Saved_Games folder and look for your game. Delete everything in the "messages" folder. Also, you can delete all the files in your News/txt/leagues and news/txt/teams folders (but not the players folder!!). Another one is news/html/boxscores and news/html/gamelogs.

Over time these build up and will cause the game to go slow. When I play multiple seasons, I "clean house" after every season.

You need to clean out messages, box scores and game logs on a regular basis. Remember to delete the messages.dat file after deleting messages or they will be regenerated.

I generally do this on Dec 31 of each year.

Edit. Delete the messages.dat file with the game off. Start the game and the file will be created.
