How can I update 2010 Chicago Rosters?
Ok...I'm not really new to this game but I'm 65 with a memory that leaks and I need some fairly quick help if I can get it.
I've been playing Strickert's great 1959 World Series quickstart and a few other setups from time to time. For the past few weeks I've stopped working with detailed study of the game and updated setups. Doesn't take long for me to get rusty. Anyway...I would really like to play along with my White Sox against the Cubs this weekend. I had been playing the projected 2010 season for a few months. So I thought I would sim the games up until June 11 and then go in and update the WSox/Cubs rosters and play along with the real life games. The problem is that some of the updating isn't working out well. I took control of both teams but I can't get some of the players traded etc to fix the rosters. For example the Cubs need Howry and Gorsalanny and another fella and the WSox need Sergio Santos etc. I tried the trading route and it just didn't work. Then I tried cloning the players with the idea of going to the free agent list and just paying whatever was needed. I submit the money contract etc but nothing happens. Maybe it's something to do with the season being in June. At any rate I've already spent about an hour and 1/2 on about 5 players and I can't get one of them on the updated roster. Does anyone know of any shortcuts to this or is this trouble par for the course or just the problem of an old brain that can't remember the stuff he picked up about updating a month ago or so. ![]() Any help would be appreciated as long as it doesn't require much time from you. Otherwise I'll just play with the rosters I have and go from there. Thanks for listening.

Ok...another hour plus and I finally got the rosters set. Mercy.
However there is no player for the Cubs C Kovie Hill so I'll use another one. Looking forward to playing this 3 game series. This thread obviously can be deleted. Or placed in the old folks box.

Ok...another wrinkle has come up. I went to the 2010 file and reinstalled it giving it a different name. Of course, it is updated and now there is a file for Koyie Hill of the Cubs.
Another question: Is there a way to transfer him from my 2010 B league to the current one I'm trying to fix to replay the WSox/Cubs series in 2010 A?? Hill is the final missing link. Guess I could just create him in the A league but looks like a bit of work. Or...is it possible to update a current 2010 league with the new 2010 file without messing up your current rosters etc?? Questions questions. Thanks for listening.

Looks like you are having some fun.
![]() I don't know of any way to copy a player from one saved game into another saved game, except by working with exported rosters. That is, by exporting the rosters so you can work with them in a program like Excel. There is some risk to doing this until you get familiar with what this data looks like in that format and how it works. But it's certainly a way for you to do what you want. Might not be worth the trouble, though. |

But then, I don't really understand the problem you are describing, since Koyie Hill is in the 2010 MLB game, playing for the cubs. Are you thinking that he is not there, for some reason, or do I just misunderstand?

Thanks Steve but you simply must remember it's my old brain you are working with so the Excell approach is off the playing field.
Here's the problem...I started the 2010 season when I got the the pre-ordered game. And Mr. K. Hill isn't on the Cubs roster nor does he show up in the search mode. But when I re-installed the 2010 to a new season start he was there in the update. I guess I'll just have to re-do adjusting the rosters in the 2010 B game since it will include all the players needed. More work. But wait...the grandson's just showed up. Egads...now it will be a wonder if I even get to watch the WSox/Cub game. ![]() Am I having fun? Yep. Even when I do tons of research trying to figure something out in OOTP it's still fun. There is so much there. So impressive. A big big world of baseball. Look forward to the new patch next month. Thanks again for giving advice to the elderly...

In future, the easiest way to do this would be to create a manager for your league with "commissioner" powers. Once you switch to that manager, you can simply edit the player and assign them to whatever team you want.

Eriqjaffe...
I appreciate the thought but believe me I learned that angle a long long time ago. I was the commissioner and had full power. It still didn't go as smooth as you say. Some of the changes were smooth yes. But not the players I mentioned that were stuck on other teams etc. Even as Commissioner there are other nuances and angles to learn and to 'try' to remember. Drat.

Ok...I take back what I said Eriqjaffe...(in one way)
Thought I would start over updating the rosters with the new 2010 B that I installed. Made myself Commissioner and ruler of the Cubs and went to their roster and zip zip zip...made the adjustments in less than 15-20 min. So you were right. Then made myself 'acting commiss' for the WSox. Made the changes and all looked good. Went to play the game and the WSox roster was back to where it was before the adjustments. Cancelled the game and made the adjustments again. Went to the game and they were gone again. I guess you have to make yourself the full actual Commish and owner of the team because it appears that making changes (at least for what I did) as 'acting' owner does not make the changes stick. So after over 2 1/2 hours of working on this the past two days I then just decided to go ahead and play the game with lineups/rosters as close as I could do with the way things were. No dice. Peavy was tired...not hurt...just tired and I could find no way after searching for 10 min or more to get him fully rested so he could pitch the game. Wierd that you can adjust injuries but not tiredness. At least I couldn't. So I just ended up playing the two teams without being very close to the actual players and lineups. As usual with OOTP 11 the game screen looks great and the game played well but it wasn't what I was aiming for. I finally just gave up and simmed the game complete after 4-5 innings. My little desire to try to replay the actual WSox/Cubs weekend series turned out to be a strong attempt that ended in dismal failure. Oh well. Back to some normal baseball. As in the 59 World Series with Strickert's fine 59 WSeries quickstart!
