Historical Ratings
How realistic are the defensive ratings of the past season players? I am also interested in outfielder and catcher arms.
Thanks... |

They're very realistic in terms of range and ability to avoid errors. Great defensive players in real life will be great defensive players in OOTP, as long as you're using recalc or basing fielding ratings on a full career. Arm ratings probably deviate more from reality, because there is no stat to truly track arm ability. I would assume that OOTP relies pretty heavily on assist totals for arm ability, particularly for outfielders.

Thanks for the info. Can ratings be changed? Last year I tried the demo and was unable. Johnny Bench had a 6 out of 10 throwing arm in 72.

There's a player editor that should allow you to change the ratings.

Now I'm mostly playing older season, but it seems to me that there's very little difference in catcher arms.
