A Newbie Question from a non-Newbie....

OK, I'm on my fifth season in my historical league, but I have a question I've never been able to figure out. Every spring the major league schedule is automatically generated, the games start on the date they are supposed to and everything is fine. But then my minor leagues do not have a schedule generated and do not play unless I use the generate schedule function for them. How do I get the minor leagues to just generate a schedule and play without having to go to each league and generate the schedule using functions? Sorry if its a dumb question.

Pure guess here; are your minor league formats (divisions, number of teams) standard? The game may not generate a schedule if it can't match one to the set up. One other point. Are each minors made up of an even number of teams?

That's all I can think of.

BTW not a dumb question at all.

Something to check during preseason is what says in League Setup on the Options page, when you looking at one of your minor leagues. In case you didn't know, you have tell League Setup which league you are doing setup for -- otherwise it will usually just give you the ML league setup. But on that page of the minor league setup you should be able to see what is being done about schedules. Maybe something didn't get set right.

I have 2 leagues of 3 divisions each, with each division containing 6 teams for a total of 18 teams per league, 36 total. So it is an even number of teams. I don't know if that is standard.

Thats possible. I know this league was created in I think OOTP5 or 6, and was imported several times through OOTP6, OOTP7, OOTP8, OOTP9, OOTPX and the current version. I don't know what happened to the settings, but I know I've had this problem since OOTP9. What settings should I be looking for to automatically generate a schedule and start playing it?

Just Noticed Something Interesting....

When I go to the Game Setup options for my minor leagues, the start date for all three leagues is from last year, not this year. Also it is combining the stats from last year and this year together in my minor leagues. For some reason, the season start date did not update for my minor leagues, so it did not create a new schedule nor start playing for those leagues. Shouldn't that start date automatically update for the minor leagues?

Yes, things should be happening automatically, but only after you've gotten everything correct from the start. There are basically two components, or steps, to getting a league schedule. One is the schedule related settings in the Options tab, the other is the League Schedule Editor which is one of the buttons on the Game Setup Functions page. Do what you need to do in that order: Options tab first, League Schedule Editor second. You will only be able to fix things in the off-season (or at least what the game currently thinks is the off-season). Beyond that, who knows, because what you are describing is pretty unusual.

Well, this league originated in OOTP6 and was exported through every version of OOTP since then (I'm on my fifth season playing out almost every game). Who knows what funkiness could have introduced with all of those exports? Oh well....
