Good Idea for OOTP 12
I was thinking how cool it would be if players had agents. If they had a tough agent it would be harder to negotiate etc. and you would see once in a while a storyline saying that I player couldn't finalize a deal and he fired his agent, so he could do it himself... what do you guys think?

That could be pretty cool, I'd rather see complete coaching staffs first. But, this would add some drama to negotiations.

If agents were added to the game it would be awesome to be able to play the game as an agent. Players hire and fire you and a score could be computed on the number of signings you get done. Just a crazy idea but this seems like a good idea for someone who just "watches" the games and likes to have something to do other than watching the games.

This idea sounds great.. but I like the idea of having a full coaching staff better...

Either that or Boras stole one of his team's stars. I can understand why that would make someone bitter toward agents. My vote is, "Show me the money!" Yes.

I think the inclusion of agents, with varying personalities and degrees of toughness and effectiveness, would be a good addition to the game. You want more realism, there it would be. How many free agents are there IRL who would be rated "greedy" in OOTPB but are actually being manipulated by their acquisitive agents? We must recruit and retain team doctors but a major factor that GM's must deal with in their running a modern baseball organization are not in the game whatsoever - player agents.

I think there are both new features (like implementation of the 5 & 10 rule, pitching coaches aiding in new pitch development) and improvement to existing features (improved trade AI, some additions to historical play I suggested) that I rather have.
I commend you for thinking of new ground to conquer but it doesn't add much for me. |

This is a feature I would not use. I don't use the personality ratings either. I feel there are more important things that could be added then just more front office stuff. Its great for some who use them but for its just something that would be taking up space that could be used elsewhere.

It's been suggested before, but I think two things would need to be weighed here - the added complexity of involving agents in negotiations (and modeling them with AI, and added sim time) against the gameplay value of having agents. I'm not sure how much fun it would be to play as an agent - maybe, if there was a lot built around the role. Thinking about it, it might be a lot more fun to play the game as a scout. They'd need to give you a stopwatch and a radar gun, but if you could recommend to your GM which prospects to target in trade, make draft boards, and go off to showcases in Venezuela and clock guys running to first and collect radar gun readings, then suggest international signing targets to your GM, you'd probably get pretty invested in following the progress of the guys you've recruited.

Good thread, with good ideas and good back-and-forth. MH will decide, but I think I will take up OP's invitation to post it (or second his post) in the suggestion box if they have one for OOTP 12.
