Free Agency Help (Historical League)

Hello,

I am new to OOTP 11 ... just started playing this week. I have a historical league with the free agency option turned off. I hope these are not dumb questions, but I have played DMB for years and it has nothing like the financial model in OOTP. So I'm a little lost.

My question: What will happen to my players at the end of the season if they are not signed to an extension? Will their contracts expire and they become free agents? Or will they be automatically resigned at the same salary? (I am acting as GM for my team and not allowing the AI to handle any contract issues with my team.)

Followup: If they become free agents because I failed to sign them to an extension, how is that different from enabling the free agency option in the league rules?

Followup: If they cannot become free agents and I do not sign them to an extension, can they refuse to play or will their mood turn so bad that it affects the way they play?

Thanks for your help.

With free agency turned off, your players are not allowed to jump ship. They just get a new one year "contract" based on their value. You may sign them to long-term contracts if you wish. The Ai will likely to do that, because the AI doesn't know any better. In that situation, players become free agents only if the AI or you release them. That will happen (and did happen IRL).

Thanks, Steve.

In setting up my historical league starting with 1901, I notice the waivers option does not appear in the league rules (using advanced set up). Is it not supposed to be there or did I make a mistake at an earlier step?

Since you are new to the game, you might want to be cautious about using advanced setup. If you do, you have to make sure that all the options are getting set correctly. That includes waivers. The option is there, but waivers aren't turned on automatically in advanced setup. Nor is the 40-man roster. Etc., etc.
