Old Pet Peeve re Trading

I have a trading deadline in my league, but still keep getting multiple trade offers after the deadline. Shouldn't the only offers come from outside my league?

You can make trades after the deadline, but the players have to clear waivers first.

Now, what happens if waivers are turned off is a different question.

Yes, but it kind of ruins the reality of the trading deadline, and is quite annoying to get offers for trades that would never clear waivers. I also am not a fan of how the game continues to inundate the newswire with reports of trade rumors after the deadline. Ideally that would be toned down by a factor of 10 if there's a trading deadline set.

That's how it works in real life.

Yeah, but post-deadline trades mostly only happen due to MLB clubs 'gaming' the waiver system by putting players on the waiver wire and hoping to sneak one through.

I doubt that sort of thing would ever be possible for the AI to do, nor do I think it particular desirable from a gameplay persepective.

What I mean is the sense of reality. I know that's how it works in real life, but in real life the news isn't still filled with talks of guys being on the trading block once the deadline has passed.

I understand your point about "gaming" the rules but the fact is that many significant post deadline trades do happen in Baseball and modeling this should be a goal of the game developers based on the claim of being the most realistic sim on the market. I would claim that it is a very desirable feature.

As to whether the AI could handle it. I don't know. It seems to me that some sort of threshold value in the waiver code could modify the likelihood of highly rated players being claimed after the deadline. It may not be as easy as I think of course.

Yes it is. Post deadline trades are arguably the biggest news in August of each year.

With waivers turned off, you can't trade after the deadline.

How many is that really? I'd like to see some numbers so we have something objective by which to measure. (There is also the question of how one defines 'significant' but let's leave that aside. I'd be interested in just seeing as a raw total the number of trades before the trade deadline, after the trade deadline, and during the off-season. Breaking it down by rules period would be interesting too.)

Which is why I keep them turned off. Works great.
