Late round Diamond in the rough
For fun, I started a new league beginning in 1950 with the current day MLB set up from the start standard league menu.
Simmed for 20 or so years to get some history and came up on this guy, adrian estrada: Checked his history and here is where he was selected. It is a 30 round draft, and he is currently first all time in hits, 2nd in Home runs and RBI, and top ten in BA and Walks. He is the leagues all time leader in VORP. Not bad for a 13th rounder. |

Looked for more, and the 3rd all time leader in HR's was drafted in the 22nd round the year later. He is a classic slugger, fewer hits, more strikeouts.
It is nice to see though. Most the rest of the leader board is dominated by 1st or second round picks as far as I can tell. |

In my main OOTPX league which I lost due to a harddrive crash, two of the top 3 players were late round picks. The top hitter in league history (most hits, HRs, walks and strikeouts) was a second overall pick, but the #2 best hitter in my mind, who had the higest single season VORP in league history, had about 3500 hits and 600 homers, was an 11th round pick (15 round draft) and both played on the same team for the best hitters' rookie year. #3 best hitter was a 14th rounder and ended up with 3200 hits and 600 homers. Also, the best home run hitter in my league's history, who hit 520 home runs or so in 11 seasons (all but 6 or so in his first 10 years) and a league record 64 in his third to last year, was a 9th round pick.

13th round
If I recall correctly, Albert Pujols was also drafted in the 13th round. Granted MLB has a larger draft pool...

Yes, but everyone knew he had good hitting talent. He didn't get drafted until then because of his horrible fielding, so it kind of makes the whole round 62 thing less cool.
