ootp11 1871 database question

After taking some time away from OOTP (still have my ootp2 disk..ah the memories!), I have returned and am loving the new game. I have always wanted to begin in 1871 and go through history and I believe this version provides the best possibility for realizing that goal.

That said, hopefully somebody can help me on a few issues. I downloaded the 1871 schedule and spritz db. In the db, is historical_database.odb. I know I place that in to replace the current historical_database in the stats folder.

What I want to do is have the real teams from 1871-1900 play as they did in real life. I don't understand the relation between the odb folder and the excel books so this is probably a dumb question but can I replace the modified team files that shipped (changing teams and having AL) with the Lahman database but keep the rest and the Spritz odb?

Also, the historical schedule for 1871 shows on the outside 13 teams and 80 game schedule but examining the structure, it appears only 9 teams are in the schedule and all around 30 games. Am I missing or not understanding something from this?

Thank you for any direction you all can provide in making a successful recreation of history!

OOTP needs to alter real league structure pre-1901 because OOTP requires two leagues and an even number of teams. That is also why a player draft is required, players can't go to their real teams because their real teams pretty much won't exist.

In 1871 the 9 National Association teams played between 27 and 35 games. To make the schedule and structure work with OOTP the game uses 8 teams and everybody plays 30 games.

If an ODB file exists in the stats folder OOTP ignores the CSV files, if there is no ODB file it uses the CSV files. If you include a different teams.csv file it must include an even number of teams. There is a thread started by baseball man that explains how to get around this challenge in great detail. I'd check in there when you get a chance.
