1871 Player Photos

Just got this game today, and am very excited to get to watch the 1871 season play out.

I'm very experienced in using OOTP in the past, as well as such rival interfaces as Season Ticket Baseball, Puresim Baseball, and Baseball Mogul, all of which are incredibly easy to use with custom pictures, but none of them attempt to sim any seasons earlier than 1901

OOTP 11's online manual describes an equally simple process of using custom photos: just use the player's first name with an underscore seperating first names from last, i.e.: "firstname_lastname". Says that you can either name a player photo that way, or by the player's ID#, i.e.: "Bob_Addy" would be "player_2"

I've tried these methods step by step by the letter, including re-sizing the image and saving it in both required formats: .jpg and .png, and have even put the files in the Photos, Pictures, and Fg_files folders, none of which is met with any success.

I'm either missing a painfully obvious step, the "help information" on player editing is wrong, or the interface needs to be corrected to where the help information and actual results match up.

Any help out there would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You usually need to do this before starting a new game. Once the game has been created, OOTP copies the required images into a new folder that it creates within your saved game directory. So, if you want images to show up in newly created games, then follow the manual and place them in your photos folder for OOTP11 documents. If your game has already been created, then they need to be saved in your saved game folder under the news directory and then the html subfolder under that.

Yeah, it would be nice though if one didn't have to take that extra step. This means you can't click on a player before giving him a photo, or he's stuck with the default picture for good until you go in and delete the images in the created folder.

This interface is temperamental, but I'm learning what you can and can't do with it. There are a number of improvements which I can see that I hope will be implemented in future updates and game versions, but once the user knows what he can or can't do with the interface, this is a fun program to run.
