Trade Difficulty Settings

The proverbial question!

I've just started my fictional MLB league...I've initially set trading difficulty to HARD and FAVOR PROSPECTS. I play with scouting on at the normal level.

Pre-OOTP 11 these were the trade settings that the conventional wisdom seemed to favor for not being able to rip the AI off.

Has the AI trading logic been enhanced in 11?...

I've tried making a few trades and found that the AI is VERY demanding with these settings. Because all players are fictional, I have no preconceived bias versus real MLB players.

Any initial opinions/thoughts?

Markus has stated that the AI Trading logic was improved.

Well I don't know how improved it has been since OOTP10, but when I played with the default trade settings, the Padres were willing to give up CL Heath Bell for SP Jo-Jo Reyes. When I switched it to Hard, Favor Prospects, they were much harder (and more realistic) to bargain with. So I think Hard and Favor Prospects is still the best way to go. I just don't know how the frequency of the trading should be (default is Low)

My first game was as the Pirates and the first trade I attempted I was able to get Butler from KC for a coupe overpriced veterans and a career minor leaguer. When the Ai accepted this trade I cancelled it and went and set the options to HARD-Favor prospects. So I would say just start with this setting and get used to it.

Frankly, I think the "favor prospects" is nothing more than widely believed myth. Setting it to Hard is not. This is one of the few areas of the game where you have an option to make the AI into a tougher competitor. In effect, you are voluntarily creating a cartel of AI-managed teams that treat you worse than they treat each other. That is what it amounts to. I play it that way, FWIW.

Take it for what its worth. I havent really played since 6.5

I took over the Royals and was able to land the following players by the end of the year year on Normal and Neutral. I never traded more than two players than what I was asking for (not counting draft picks). So I think I am going to have to go with Hard and Favor Prospects.

Top Prospects According to Baseball America

#6 Demond Jennings
#20 Jeremy Hellickson
#24 Tim Beckham
#26 Brett Lawrie
#38 Austin Jackson

along with Scott Sizemore, Mat Gamel, Chad Billingsley and someone else I cant think of off the top of my head.

All I really traded was Billy Butler, Gil Meche and Mike Moustakas, and a slew of draft picks. I didnt trade Greinke

Personally, I wish there was a middle ground setting between default and hard.

I play Hard/Neutral also (I think that's what you're playing). I don't do the favor prospects thing because I also don't believe in it's ability to make trading harder. In fact in some cases it allows you to rip off the AI more by offering the AI someone it deems as a prospect for a really good player who's age may be just beyond prospect.

I'll play with Hard/Favor Prospects and I would probably agree that neutral isthe way to go. The thing with favor prospects is that it makes the AI value young players more so young players have alot of trading value and the AI grips hard to its own prospects, however it fits my playing style quite well since I always aim to get a good farm with young core players so it makes it harder for me to get the players that I want but one should get wary as young players have a really high trade value so one could probably take advantage of it.

I also use house rules when trading also but it's a simple one the trade have to be fair for both sides (or a disadvantage for me) and it have worked out good for me.
