What's the story with contract extensions?

Greetings;

I have a player in his final year of his contract. After going back and forth a few times haggling over pennies on a contract extension I just threw in the towel and said, "Meet Demand". He wouldn't take it but he was open to further negotiations.

So, I offered him $5000 a season (4) than he was asking for. He said no but would continue to negotiate. He asked for what I had just offered him. So I said, "Meet Demand" and lo and behold, it wasn't good enough.

I give up. I think this is a bug in that if a player says, "I want x dollars" and you offer him "x dollars", then he should take it. Why ask for what you won't accept?

Comments, explanations, whatever. I'm confused and a tad frustrated. Only a tad because it's only a game. But it's a big tad.

Thanks

The fact that you tried lowballing him the first few times probably had a bearing on him turning you down when you finally gave in and met his demand.

Can't say as I blame him either.

Maybe he felt your earlier attempts was you trying to "lowball" him, so now he wants more money than he did initially.

Also the player may slightly change his impression of his value between when you offer the deal and when he makes his decision - if, say, he had a good week and stats factor into your AI evaluations, or if his ratings jumped a bit and ratings factor into your AI evaluations.

I had the same experience signing a draft pick. Hitting "meet demand" should always work. It should be the amount that the guy is 100% happy with, leaving room of course to sign most players for something less that their demand through the bargaining process.

If the guy doesn't like being lowballed and now doesn't want to sign his demand should go up. He shouldn't deliberately make a false demand just so that he can refuse you. That makes no sense.

I don't know, I think its kind of humorous. If you're jacking around with him, makes sense that he returns the favor.

Please, contract negotiation is nothing but two sides trying to fool the other into paying what they want. Well.... usually.

I'm with mking55.

I can see the guy raising his demand out of irritation, increased value or whatever, but if you "meet demand" (not meet previous demand, meet the current demand) that should do it.

I see this as a problem.

But that makes less sense. The fact is his demand on the day you offered the contract may not be the same as soon as you press "advance to the next day". You're just meeting his demand on the previous day and it would make less sense for a player to be forced to take a salary he obviously does not agree to simply because yesterday he did.

Seems like there would be the chance to "never" be able to extend someone then. Theoretically every single time you "meet demand" their demands could change based off of their next couple games. I don't think that is what is intended programming wise...

which is why you don't perform contract extensions on players mid-season.

I agree with mking. It seems illogical to meet a demand and then have them say sorry no thanks. I do not think in real life people would tolerate that more than once.

My guess is that the game decided he wouldn't do the extension and just isn't aborting properly.

I would backup my game and then offer him something rediculously more than what his demand is and see if he takes it. If not I would write up a support ticket on it.

It don't think it's a bug though. contract demands are based largely on ratings and current year statistics, so if you are trying to extend a contract during the season it makes sense "meet demand" wouldn't be as effective since one or two games could change what a player thinks he's worth if he's playing well enough.

Geez, the season was over so there were no "next couple of games". The high offer he didn't take, when I went back to him later, he wanted less money. The money I offered him at one time was more than he asked for any other time.

If he's "offended" by a lowball offer that's fine. Then he should say, "f.u." and not deal with me.

If the "meet demand" button is not dependable, then get rid of it. If it's supposed to be what it says then fix it so it works. Either way works for me. But having a "meet demand" button be the equivalent of a "c.t." is ridiculous.

And you don't think that might have been some information you should have mentioned in your OP?

This appears to be a bug. I lost 2 players after meeting their demand and I wasn't jerking them around giving them lowball offers.

If you ask a player what he wants and you give it to him he should sign.

Which would be fine, if the next time you hit meet demand, it wasn't the same exact amount it was before.

Yeah thats what happened to me. I was like what the heck do you want dude? And I make all my offers after the season is over so there is no extra week of stats.

I agree that this sounds like a bug. It hasn't happened to me yet and I have signed some extensions. Maybe someone who has seen this could write up a support ticket? I think it is pretty obvious if you meet the demand, they reject it, and come back demanding the same amount, something isn't working quite right.
