Historical Playthrough

So can someone let me in on how to play a historical sim? I am a new generation Braves fan, and I've always wanted to play some of the old Braves' greats. Although I don't know as many of them as a die-hard baseball fan probably would, I would still like to be able to 'play' them out through a sim and see how they really could perform.

I have no idea how to play a historial sim though. And no idea what happens in it. For example, if I run into the 90s, will Chipper Jones all of a sudden be on my team or will I have to draft him first? I want to try something like the Braves of very old like 1950 or so and sim from there.

I can get you started on that.

All you have to do is select New Custom Game, or Create New Game from the OOTP menu. You will get a wizard with several selections, one of which is Historical League. From there you get some options to select. When you are done, you will be in a MLB league, managing your favorite team, in the year you want to start.

As simple as that is, it's also true that the wizard does not include some options that many historical players want to choose. For example, based on your question, the default mode would have new rookies come into the game thru an amateur draft. Many OOTPers prefer to have new rookies coming into the game on the teams they actually played for. To do that, you have to go to the League Setup after creating your game and turn off the amateur draft (you can't have both a draft and also have historical rookies go to their original teams).

Because of things like the draft, it usually a good idea to investigate the League Setup options after you've created your game, to see if there are other adjustments you might want to make. However, you are likely to find things that you don't understand yet. Ignore them. Just make adjustments to the things that you feel you understand. You should be able to get an interesting league going with that much of a initiation.

Have fun.
